I am considering becoming an FNP or Midwife and I am begining the process of applying to schools. A co-worker told me about this school (The Frontier School Of Midwifery and Family Nursing) and I am interested in it especially since it is online. I have never heard of it before so I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it or went there or known someone who has gone there. You can also get your DNP there and they coordinate your clinicals for where you live. Any information would be appreciated.
Berkshire1995 I have my interview May 6th!! So what types of questions did they ask. How was it? I'm excited and a little nervous all at the same time!! Another question I have is do you think working 24 hours a week at a very busy and draining ICU and taking full time studies is too much?? I am considering working at a OB/ GYN office or Allergies and Asthma both of which I am very interested in doing as an FNP and it would not be as stressful as what I am doing now. What do you think? If I stay in the hospital I would consider L&D, PACU, or OR. But whatever it is I do do you think part time work and full time school is too much? I have no kids, bills, I live with my parents (Im 23) so I have no other stressors. What is a typical week of study like at Frontier? Anyways input would be nice. Thank ya'll
I think in depends entirely upon the student. My BFF went to an Ivy League school for ACNP, worked 36h a week, raised 3 kids as a single mom, was the brownie troop leader and had numerous other volunteer obligations. She had no trouble. Another friend worked FT, married with 4 kids, homeschooled all 4 of them and also had no trouble. a third acquaintence did not work, had no kids, and struggled until she eventually dropped out. My profs tell me if you have the apptitude and 20-30 hours a week to study, you be fine no matter what you are doing in those other hours.
Hello... I just went to the Frontier Nursing website to check on some information before sending in my application, and the class I was applying for is closed!!! The applications were due Aug 10th. I am so sad... Does anyone know when the classes start up again after the first of the year? I tried to call but they must be closed for the holiday. Has anyone else heard from the school? (if you applied for class 71 and 72)
Thanks for any information, and congratulations to those of you who are Frontier Bound!!

Hi to everyone:
if I am accepted, I plan to work per diem. School will be my priority. I think as long as you are well-organized, self-directed and focused that work can be done, but I would not recommend full-time. Online learning, at least to me, requires an extremely focused and disciplined schedule. I wish you all the best!
