The 2025 Doctoral change CRNA

Updated:   Published

What dose everyone think about the change in 2025? All schools will have changed their masters program into a Doctoral program. How will the change the playing field? Do you think the salaries of a CRNA will go down? Or will fewer enter into the programs making the salaries go up? I am really lost on this one. In a way I think it will appeal to many and may flood the market even more but the other half of me thinks that the majority will not be willing to put in the extra work and then their will be a shortage and drive up the pay....

How do you guys feel about it? I hope to enter into a program around 2020 but I believe that by then most of the programs will have changed over and I am afraid that by then it would be a waste of time.

I suspect a parallel with CRNA's will occur as it did with the pharmacists and physical therapists. Those professions used to have entry with a bachelor's and then they moved to a doctorate degree only. This had the effect of reducing the supply and driving up wages. I think any time that you have a continuing demand and a reduced supply to meet that demand, the cost of the supply goes up. This is ceteris paribus, as my Econ professor used to say and ignores any possible regulatory issues that may occur.

Please provide a link to this. I just tried researching it, and can't find anything.

Thank you,

All I can find is this:

...report and options were presented to the AANA Board of Directors in April 2007, and in June 2007 the board unanimously adopted the position of supporting doctoral education for entry into nurse anesthesia practice by 2025.

I have a feeling it's going to be much like the BSN entry to practice deal.
