The Careless Nurse...

Published

Lately, I have noticed alot of nurses with this careless attitude..I don't know if its contributing from burnout, underpaid, low staffing, shortage etc...this nurse seems to not care at all if his/her work is left undone....or whether his/her hard earned license are at stake.... its sad to see this behavior because the patients end up on the short end of the stick with lack of care....have any of you witness this careless nurse?

*sigh* and then the students wonder why we "eat our young"....

Seriously though, I think that every profession has people that just aren't doing the right job for their personality.

But what is the point of this thread other than to bash your coworkers? I'm sure it's frustrating to work with people with no sense of teamwork, but it is quickly degenerating into yet another "bash the burnt out nurse" thread.

I attempt to give my co-workers the benefit of the doubt most of the time when it comes to "getting all of their work done." Sometimes the floor is just too crazy with one crisis after the other to get everything done. If, after several calmer shifts and no real emergencies on the floor or with that specific group of patients, I try to address the situation. More than once I have been told about issues outside of work, that would zap anyone for a loop. If, after that I see no improvement, I talk to HN. Let the boss figure it out. Life is stressful, nursing is stressful, we need to be kind to one another and not jump so quickly to label someone "lazy". Ofcourse, there are exceptions but somewhere down the line they are always caught. Blessings to all.
