ahhh... the memories:grpwlcm: right out of school, I landed a fulltime job on the evening shift in med-surg:up: but first I had to orient on day shift :bowingpur I'm not sure why but tht's the way they did things... whaat a nightmare:bugeyes: my preceptor was a nut:devil: constantly badgering to hurry up while she stood there with her arms crossed aand that ******* disgusted look:sniff: making snide comments about how she would "drop" another one.. why are people like that ? But I survived and made it to my evening shift.. (which was even on another floor) What a relief ! The Charge Nurse was awesome and the other nurses were supportive:1luvu:

Appy yourself- don't take it personal- and never bring your worries to or from work.:twocents:

You can do this- I promise.

Normal, Normal, Normal!! Did I say 'normal'? Once you get there, you have to learn to organize yourself, learn who you can count on, continue to read and then, correlate the books to the actual experience. It does take time, but, it can and will happen. Good luck in your last semester!

Hello All,

I am a senior in a BSN program and I feel like I am not at all prepared to be a nurse. I have no clue how to adequately care for an individual patient beyond a care plan or concept map. I have had many rotations (i.e. Med-surg, pediatric, geriatrics, OB etc..) and I am still unprepared. As I go into my last and final semester in January 2010, I would like to push myself 200% to fill the gaps I feel my nursing school has left wide open.

I seriously have a 4+ panic attack just thinking about being actual nurse to multiple patients. I feel like I have not been prepared as much as I'd prefer. I guess I need some suggestions and/or words of encouragement because at this point I feel doomed. :crying2: I know I should be happy, but I fell that so many other people are more experienced and understand exactly what to do from beginning of shift to end without hesitation, and I am honestly not at the point.

Please Help...

So close yet so far away :o:trout:

I'm sorry you feel that way. The school where my boyfriend goes makes the student nurses handle all of the care of each patient during their clinical rotation and during the third semester of nursing gives them at least three patients to care for, of course under supervision of the instructor. The instructors at his school encourage full participation, they are very very strict, but they do expose them to caring for multiple patients starting the third semester.
