Thanks and Farewell

I would like to pass on a thank you for those took the time to answer my queries. After reflecting on the information received here and elsewhere I will be pursuing another health profession instead of nursing.

Thank you.

I also know that all too well. I even worked in a hospital for 6 months and found out that I hated the whole arena (a few of the nurses love to corner there lessers and talk down to them telling them what did they did wrong or that they were too slow). I jumped ship about 4 months ago and went back to working retail and am going for my dental hygiene degree. Wooooooooo hoooooooooo!!!!!!!

I am with you. I appreciate all the help I received from this board, but after many sleepless nights, shadowing and volunteer experience-I have decided to become a respiratory therapist. After becoming registered, I plan on becoming a neonatal/pediatric specialist. Many people have told me that RT careers go nowhere, but after all the research I have done and all the RT's I have talked to, I know that this career can take me many, many places and I will be happier. Throughout my career though, I will never forget everything I have learned on this board and I will always have the nurses backs wherever I work!

Abigail, I work in a neonatal unit and the RTs are fabulous! They all seem very happy in their job and are invaluable to the unit. I would encourage anyone to take a look at this profession. It isn't quite as portable as nursing, but the benes seem to more than make up for it. I could never do it. I hate sputum. Smart choice deciding on peds and neonatal... the smaller they are, the less sputum they can fling:)

Good luck to all of you, whatever career choice you decide to pursue! :)

Made the same decision some months ago. My ghost still lurks around once in a while. I mainly come back for reinforcement of direction from time to time. It always helps just to view one of those "hot button" topics for a few minuets to let the nostalgia fade.

I'm going PA. I used to be a resp. therapist but it was sooooooo redundant for me. I have always been intrigued by the diagnosis and treatment of disease and thought nursing was much closer to it than RT..............but alas, it is only a distant cousin of medicine, a fact nurses are proud of. I was tired of feeling different than those around me.

If you like neonatal RT is a good trade for nurse, otherwise it's all the same.

Good for you all.

Consider this like the original intent of enagament periods for betrothed couples - a time to try things on to see if this is the avenue to pursue. It's not a failure to decide that this is not what you want to do :). Hoping you all are happy in whatever you decide to be!
