:) I was curious as to how 7th day adventist nurses get jobs. I was told that 7th day Adventists are not allowed to work on Saturdays. When you apply do you have trouble getting jobs since you can't work on Saturdays? Thanks for any info.

What do you all think is the best way for a new nurse interviewing for a position at a hospital to approach the subject of the observance of the 7th day Sabbath, especially if that nurse is willing to work Saturday and Sunday nights regularly as well as holidays?

I am a 3rd gen SDA and never have been taught that hell is somewhere we go... SDA's do not believe in hell. People also need to be cared for any day of the week, I do however want to have my ever-other Friday night off so that I can go to church with my family.

I am a SDA and do work some Saturdays because as said earlier Jesus did good on sabbath and also as a Church we do have hospitals and institutions worldwide where the sick and vulnerable need care everyday of the year and it is our duty to make sure that those people are cared for.If you were ill and need hospitalisation you would need some one to care for you too or your beloved wether its on a Sabbath or not. But if you feel strongly about working some Sabbaths then talk it over with your Manager and pray about it and see how it goes. Personally we have the sick and Adventist institutions and the needy need care. All the best.

What I would say would be something like, 'I'm a Seventh-day Adventist, and I keep the Sabbath (Saturday) holy from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. I would be willing to work every Saturday night and Sunday night, as well as holidays in order to have Saturdays off. Is there any way we could work around that." Or something along those lines.
I'm an SDA nurse, and I start my new job on October 9th. I know during orientation I will have to follow my preceptor's schedule, but once I'm off I'm going to try to schedule myself off during the Sabbath, but if it doesn't work out sometimes, it doesn't. But hopefully it will work out.

Well, there are SDA hospitals, and since they don't close on Saturdays, I don't think the nurses are required to have Saturdays off.

People need care 24/7 and it is a noble thing to be a nurse. with that being said as an SDA, I believe that helping and caring for people is a part of the sabbath. Jesus healed on the sabbath and we should be honored to do the same.
Here are some of the things I have seen and heard that SDA nurses have done:
1. donate their salary for working on the sabbath to the church
2. switch days of with a sunday worshiper
3. asked for friday night of from the get go.
4. for the 7p.m. to 7a.m. shift... go to church ANYWAY
5. take your lunch and pop into church service.
6. go to the church chapel and have worship.
7. Work your shift and bring your sabbath joy to your patients
