TGIF

Had a routine busy day like everyday. At 2 o'clock I have 1 student in my office for the 3rd time with period cramps, could not do anything else for her. Apparently she didn't feel good and wouldn't do her work, so she was sent to "chill out". By 215 I had 4 others sent to my office to "chill"! Sorry but I do not have time to be keeping track of 5 5th graders basically goofing off in my office! Luckily the secretary was the one to speak to the teacher because at that moment I don't think I could have been nice about it, especially when we have a behavior specialist they are suppose to "chill" with! Other than taking my lunch break and routinely being interrupted, during this time I received a call from the Health Department that one of my Kinders has come in contact with someone with Pertussis! With 10 mins until dismissal I managed to throw letters to my Kinder teachers to send home. TGIF because now I need to "chill"!

Oh.....my....hope the Pertussis thing works out. As to the other, my rules are simple: no cell phone, no chitchat, no .....anything. Someone has to be doubled over in order to "chill" with me for that particular issue. I send them right back!

I, too, hope that pertussis scare works out! And I hope the weekend was a good "chill" time for you :).

I have a no "chill" policy in my office - they go right back if there is not reason for me to have 'em. Luckily, we have two wonderful school counselors that can help.

However, there was one day last week was it was 90+. Our school is not air-conditioned in the classrooms; in the last hour of school, I had 15 children sent down with minor heat-related complaints. I did not have enough space for all these children. My office is not air-conditioned (I know, but it is in the basement, so that helps) and other than water and rest, there was little I could do. Sending home in the last 40 minutes was a moot point. Luckily, the weather turned to fall, but in New England you never know if there is another 90 degree hiding out before winter comes in...

It was a great wkend at home doing nothing! I will find out a little later how my possible Pertussis student is doing. We have mass vision and hearing screenings today at another school, and I'll be popping back in to mine later in the morning. I love my job but these darlings are breaking me in properly my first yr!
