Texting During Tests!

Published

Wow! I'm about to finish my first term in the LPN program I attend. As my class was about to take our final for A&P 1 our DON came into the room and said our teacher was at a training class and she was going to proctor the test. It was fine with me, but then she said there had been some texting during tests and requested all cell phones to be on the desk where she could see them. The cell phone thing is fine with me too, but I was shocked to hear that some of my classmates were cheating. I was pretty mad to think that I was studying my butt off and they (whoever it was) was taking the easy way out. I never saw anyone cheat, but then again, I'm totally focused during an exam and probably wouldn't notice an elephant walking into the room;)

Anyone experience this in their program?

My school makes you either leave your phone in your car during a test, or put it on the desk in the front of the room. If it goes off during an exam (ringing or text) you get a 0, its happened to a few in my class. You can leave your class to answer your phone and your supposed to keep it silent. As far as texting and such during class, we all do it. CLASS IS SO BORING! I sit there all day and play on my iphone for 6 hours. The instructors don't take notice, they probably figure I'm reading. Ha

That in itself is a whole different issue. You may want to read your handbook & see what happens if you get caught doing that. Class is a time for learning....at least for me...I guess I'm a nerd who wants to learn every bit of information I can :) I've accepted my nerdiness lol.

Mmmmm we get our phones taken away...its beyond dumb, and we get them back at the end of the day. Its almost been an entire year, I've yet to see an instructor take a phone away. Classroom is a time for learning, how every my teachers don't teach, yet they read right from the book. The same stuff I read and highlighted the night before. Its enough to bore the biggest nerd and put them to sleep.

That sucks! I guess I will count my blessing for my teachers!!!

I completed an LPN/LVN program in 2005.

Back then, cell phones were absolutely not allowed during tests because it was discovered that students were texting answers. During our tests, our cell phones were to remain in our purses, backpacks, vehicles, or someplace other than the classroom.

I am surprised that any nursing program in the U.S. is still allowing cellphones in the classroom during a test in the year 2010.

Cell phones are allowed because all students are not 18 without a care in the world. Many of us are older with husbands and children and obligations that still have to be met. We can't just stop the world to go to school.

That being said, I have no problem, whatsoever, with my instructor who requires cell phones to be placed on HER desk during exams. I also agree that class time is not a time to be playing on one's cell. They should be silenced and out of sight in your bag or purse. But having my cell there to check on things during breaks and lunch is essential for peace of mind.

Back when we had no cell phones, we still had cheaters. Unfortunately, we always will. I just hope that some day it will come back and take a firm bite out of their backsides :yeah:
