Texas Tech VBSN 2021

Published

Hello!
I’m currently active duty and I wanted to start this thread for myself and anyone else who is currently working on their applications for SP 2021 VBSN!

I’m also hoping that anyone who is currently in and an alumni of the program could hook it up with some pointers on the application as well as some insight on how the program is. I understand it’s accelerated so that must be fun!

My primary location I’ll be Applying to is Austin and my secondary is San Antonio. I would go to Dallas but I don’t know anyone there if I have to stay the night.

Thank you!

Hey there! I also applied this Spring 2021 for the VBSN program. Both my primary & secondary locations were Lubbock. I’m anxious to here back from Admissions about our invites to get interviewed. Hopefully we hear something next week!

@TTUHSC

I hope we get it soon! I’ve been busy at work so that’s helped with the little bit of stress about waiting for a possible interview. I heard there was about 800 applications and I can only imagine what they’re going through! I’m praying that we’ll hear something before the end of the month!

Hi there! I got my email for an interview today and they are starting next week, with an extra week in September if all the August time slots do not get filled. Has anyone done any comparisons with this nursing program and others? I do not know anyone who has attended this program so I was wondering how it compared. Also, my first choice for location is Dallas and I think I put Austin as my second.

@Kristastasney

CONGRATULATIONS!! Praying your interview goes well! From other forums I’ve read, many who’ve graduated from the program highly recommend it and liked the program. Granted you can only be taught so much and the rest you learn OTJ but they felt better prepared.

Thank you! OK that sounds good. Most of the people I have talked to have done the UTA and Baylor accelerated programs here in Dallas. Since it's my second degree pretty much anything would be better than having to do another 2 years but it's good to know what I am walking into. I'll let ya'll know how the interview goes!

@Kristastasney hello! I have an interview as well, do you have any advice?! I am so nervous

HIGH FIVE! Congratulations! I got my interview this morning today too! You’ll do great I’m sure ??????

OMG CONGRATS!! My stomach dropped when I opened the email haha I’m terrified though! LOL

If you're prior Enlisted, think, presenting yourself to the board. Have a solid bio, look professional, and be able to sell yourself. Know why you want to be a nurse and the qualities that make a good nurse. Tell them what makes you the best candidate.

 A lot of questions were scenario-based (they may vary based on your medical experience/ TIS). What really helped me was thinking of this as a job interview. I memorized the school's core values and worked them into my answers.

Have a list of questions ready for them at the very end. Also, have closing remarks when they ask "is there anything else you'd like to say."

Don't be nervous. You're prior service and obviously met the prereqs for admission. This is just a formality or a character/moral screening.

Good Luck.

They send out a email on things to do before your interview. Make sure to test your computer settings and set up your space before hand. I had to play with the light in the room I did mine in because of the glare on the computer screen. Also in the email is a Youtube link for some practice interview questions. It is about 30 mins long but totally worth watching because they asked some of those same questions.

Around your interview time you will be placed in a "waiting room" on zoom. It'll be you and other candidates waiting to be moved into the one on one rooms. Here they open the floor up to questions so if you have any technical questions about the program this is a good time to get those answered. Then they will move you to another room where there are two interviewers. One asks the questions and the other takes notes. Overall, it was a good experience. I just wish I would not have rambeled on and answered some of the questions more in a direct way.

Good luck everyone!

WOW! this was SO helpful! I did watch the Youtube video that was sent and was caught off guard by some of the questions but they were good practice. Thank you so much for this detailed response! Wish you the best of luck
