Is it too early to start one? I couldn't find one. Maybe too early?

I am planning on applying to the TT 2nd degree BSN program in May in hopes to begin in January 2017.

Anyone else?? Anyone in the program currently or recently have any info to share??

Thanks!!

I will also be applying for the Austin 2017 cohort with Dallas as my alternate. I was wondering if those who have been accepted into the program know how the admissions committee likes foreign language students/those who have studied abroad. I'll be getting my B.A. in Spanish in Dec. and studied abroad in Spain last fall. I'll be getting my CNA in July, but I'm worried about not having a lot of clinical experience before the app deadline/possible interview. During high school I went on 4 week-long mission trips to Jamaica, Belize, Nova Scotia, and Spain, so I'm hoping the cultural experience will make up for my lack of medical experience. Any info would be great! Thanks!

Hello All! I too plan on applying to the TT 2nd Degree BSN 2017 program.

Specializes in ICU.

@dais09- I did my CNA at Brightside Institute in Plano last year and it was great! Only took 3 weeks and one of those weeks was clinicals. I passed the state exam first try and I think most (if not all) of my classmates did as well. The program did a great job preparing us for it.

I applied last year and was invited for an interview but had just found out I was pregnant (literally found out 5 days before I got the interview invitation) and due in March 2016, so I had to decline and was told to reapply for 2017.

My understanding from previous years is that clinical experience goes a long way. Here are my stats from my application last year:

-UG degree: Bachelors of Business Administration from Texas Tech

-GPA: 3.35 (for just the prereqs listed - my understanding is for your "overall" GPA they only consider the prereqs listed in their website)

-Science GPA: 3.21

-CNA, BLS, and medical terminology course all completed at time of application

-TEAS: 94.7% overall (90.5 reading, 100 math, 95.8 science, and 96.7 English)

I have worked as a clinical assistant in step down ICU for almost a year now, but I honestly don't remember if I had started when I applied last year or not.

I just sumbitted my application for 2017 and all stats are the same, with the exception of the TEAS. I had to retest as my previous scores were more than a year old. Being out of school a year hurt me, especially on science. This years scores were 90.7% overall (95.2 reading, 100 math, 79.2 science, and 93.3 English).

I noticed that there was a box on this years application where you could add additional information, so I mentioned I was invited for an interview last year and explained the circumstances regarding the withdrawal of my application then. Hoping that helps this year!

Good luck to everyone! I've heard great things about the program from nurses I work with!

Hi everyone! I just found this thread and wanted to let you know that I was accepted to the 2016 Austin cohort but was able to defer to 2017 due to having a baby. I can answer questions about the admission process if anyone as them! Here's my email: [email protected]

Specializes in ICU.

@km1983 - congrats on your acceptance and the new baby! I just sent you an email and would love your insight on the interview and application process :)

Hi guys. I just applied a few days ago. I am in the Austin area. Keeping fingers crossed.

Hello! Took my TEAS V test a couple of days ago, and now I guess we all just wait to hear if we get an interview! I applied to the Dallas campus. Anyone know anything about if certain areas are more competitive than others? Thanks!!

Hi @colleenb.coop! I know they look at prior work experience (Healthcare and other types of work) as well as grades. They seem to really want a well rounded individual with maturity and life experience. Good luck!

I just sent my transcripts to Texas 2nd degree BSN program. And I'm in the process of completing online application. I have Av GPA 3.85 on prereg. and 3.8 on science, have received CNA certification recently, but working in a hospital as EKG tech. The thing that bother me most is my teas score which is just 80% lowest being at reading

beccatap, everything looks great in your case. I am going to submit my application soon, probably in the next couple of days. my gpa 3.84, sc gpa 3.8, recently cna certified, but Im working as EKG tech. Teas 80%, but I have lowest in reading section

I just submitted my application to the Austin location. I applied last year; however, I didn't have all the required course work. Moving from Iowa to Texas resulted in having to retake a few courses that didn't line up enough with the Texas Core courses.

This year I am applying with all course work completed, a BA in health sciences, a minor in biology, a 3.4 overall gpa, a 4.0 science gpa, a 98.7% on the TEAS V, and 2 years experience as a CA in an ICU. I do not have my CNA but I am hoping my current experience is sufficient. If not I will be taking the CNA class in the fall at ACC.

Hello Everyone!

I have applied to the Jan 2017 program but I am super nervous. Reading the previous threads and this one, it feels like I don't have enough to even be considered for an interview. I received my undergrad a while ago, 2007 and my overall degree GPA is 3.3 and science GPA 3.3. I didn't do that well in TEAS because I did horrible in the science section and I felt like there wasn't enough time.

Reading was 92.9

Math: 86.7 (should have gotten a 100, I am not sure how I missed these questions)

language: 86.7

Science: 56.3

so, my overall is 78% which is not great but I don't have time to take it again :/

I will have my CNA in october but I don't if that will be sufficient to get an acceptance.

I worked as an ER scribe for a year but that was in 2010 and I have done volunteer work with red cross and through volunteer network at the company I am currently working at.
