Texas Tech-Accelerated BSN Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying May 1st to the January 2020 cohort. I'm wondering how heavily they weigh the TEAS. Also, I have heard as long as you meet all criteria they typically give you an interview. Has anyone else heard this? I really like how they take a holistic approach to grant admissions. I'm wanting to apply to UTA but I feel like the main way you get extra points is by attending school there which I did not do! We'll see!

Has anybody taken a poll of how many people are on this forum and how many are applying to each cohort? I’m sure it will give us 0 additional info but could at least give us something to do while we wait. ?

Couldnt agree more lol I finally brought up the program to my manager at work(she knew I was applying) I explained that I would be quitting if I got in, and I was really excited to hear from her that there is actually an option for me to take "an extended leave of absence" and after graduation come back and start as a nurse! It really put my mind at ease and kind of made me weepy that they would be so willing to not only let me go to school and leave them for a year but then also immediately hire me back and train me! I currently work as a surgical technician and although I will keep an open mind during clinicals I currently don't see myself working outside of the operating room. The operating room has become my home because I have worked as surgical tech since I was 19. Additional caveat, my work hired me with a 3 year gap in employment(stayed home with the kids and went to school), no certification, and no associates degree. Since I have gotten my associates and certification and I feel like the facility and people I work with are the total needle in a haystack. We have 95% patient satisfaction, 9 months into the year and ZERO infections, and the BIG thing my managers are amazing people and really take care of us and help us to have a great home work life balance. I feel so blessed to happen to find them randomly! My husband is active duty air force and if/when we have to move I am going to be devastated to leave them.

I figure the lengthy post at least gives everyone something to read lol

That is so great! What hospital? Sounds like they’d be great to work for!

I applied for Dallas with Lubbock as my 2nd ?

Hi everyone!! I've also been watching this discussion everyday and saw y'all were taking a poll so figured might as well comment. ?

I applied to Lubbock!

I’m Odessa with Lubbock as second.

I think Odessa is going to be 10 not 15. I was told in my interview that 10 was how many they have now and probably what it would be for 2020... I think the amount at each location depends on faculty and preceptor commitment per location....

It is a small surgical hospital here in San Antonio, Christus Santa Rosa Alamo Heights Surgical Hospital. I should also mention our satisfaction rating used to be 98% but we have had a massive influx in volume as we used to be FOR-profit and now we are NOT for-profit and can take medicare, medicaid and just about all insurances previous to this year I rarley made it to 36 hours a week now I always get to 40 and frequently get over time. Our facility watches our hours really closely however I don't see it as a drawback as I have a 5 and 8 year old so it just means I get to be with them at bed time and extra curriculars.

Oh, and for the poll I am only applying for the San Antonio Cohort as relocating isnt an option and I am applying to VBSN. (prior air force)

Awesome!

I applied with Dallas as my 1st choice and Abilene as my 2nd!

I'm thinking way ahead, and I'm hoping to just get in at this point, but it's going to be so fun meeting you all at graduation in 15 months! Isn't that crazy? We would potentially be graduating in 15 months if we get to start! That alone is motivation!

I know right?! I am sooo ready though, I actually applied last year and I got picked for an interview but ended up contacting kyle and explaining that I was going to re-apply this year and that year FLEW BY. I had a few pre-reqs left and didnt want to mash them into a small window so I opted to take them just 2 classes at a time and I am so glad I didnt because I feel like it helped my grades significantly! Also I had some personal issues with making sure my support system was in place and now that both my kiddos are school age finding someone to watch them is much easier and affordable since I wont have to pay for full day daycare. I am soooo ready to be in school and finish up I have working toward this for 5 years now!! I know that the program is going to be extremely intense but I feel like I have finally gotten to a place in my life where I truly understand my learning needs and how and when to ask for help when are things that I feel have been the biggest obstacles in the past for myself.

Hey everyone!

Austin was my first choice and Dallas second. I currently live in the Houston area so I’m making a move either way!

My stomach sinks every time I get an email/ANY notification!! All the info on the forum has been great these past couple months so thank you to everyone that's contributed. I have Austin as my first and Dallas as my second! Looking forward to hopefully meeting y'all! *fingers crossed!*

The waiting is so rough on me mentally. I have three exams next week and I am having the hardest time focusing on studying because this is all I can think about. I really hope we find out this week!
