Hi Everyone!!

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the rate for an Operating Room RN in Texas with experience, or the rate for an RN with experience. I know the rate varies here but i am not sure because i am new to Texas. I have been ask to give a rate and i don't have a clue, normally i don't give a rate i usually just say open for discussion, but if i am offer a rate i don't know if its too low are appropriate.

Thanks so much!!

It depends on the city, since Texas is huge and spans 870 miles from east to west.

It also depends on how many years of experience you have. People would be able to provide a ballpark figure of how much to expect if you would tell us how many years of experience you have, as well as the city where you intend to work.

I have four years in the operating room all together, i have eight years nursing experience. I intend to work in the Dallas/Plano/Garland area, the hospital that ask me to state a rate is in the Dallas area.

With eight years of total nursing experience, you can expect to earn between $29 and $35 hourly in Dallas-area hospitals. Keep in mind that Texas hospitals are not unionized, so the hospitals basically have their own pay grids. In addition, since the local area has a glut of nurses and too many nursing schools, pay rates in Dallas tend to be lower than in other major cities.

By the way, Plano and Garland are all considered Dallas-area cities since they are suburbs of Dallas, so hospitals in these cities will pay about the same as facilities located in Dallas proper.

What service lines are you able to function in? Im almost a 4year RN in san antonio. My base pay is just under $40/hr. I primarily do cvor but can and do work all services. I would expect equal or greater pay in dallas.

I can work in all service except CVOR because in the hospital i worked at, we didn't have that service. My main service however, is Orthopedic.

Depending on the facility, you may be able to negotiate for a higher rate, especially if it's a service line they've had difficulty filling. I realize it's not your specialty, but as an example, I know a CVOR nurse who pretty much wrote her own ticket (>$40/hr).
