Does anyone know any hospitals in Texas that will hire new grad as OR nurse?
I am interested in working in OR but I don't want to work 1 or 2 years in Med/surg or other floor. I want to know if there are any hospitals in Texas that will provide internship? And what is the year of commitment do they need?
Thanks.
Ps. I will be moving to Texas soon and I will probably in the Plano area.
The only way to know is to contact the hospitals with OR internships. To my knowledge, you are committed to a fulltime contract after the internship. Now, the kind of shift you have after the internship will depend on their need, whether it's 7-3, 11a-7p, 3-11, etc...I have just talked to a recruiter for OR at Baylor. She said she would love me to go to their upcoming job fair. She said she does hire new grads for OR internship. BUT all internship has to work full time and also commit for 2 years after a year of training as full time.I am not sure if I want to work full time after the internship. I want to work 64 hours max per pay period. I am wondering if other hospitals have internship that I don't have to commit for full time employment after training?
I am starting at Pitt Memorial Hospital in North Carolina with no experience in the OR. I received a sign on bonus, relocation allowance, etc. I researched this area quite a bit. Duke University does an OR Internship twice a year, so does UNC. Greensboro Moses Cone does also. There are also a couple of Florida hospitals that do also. They require no background in OR prior.
Good luck. I searched for any hospital anywhere in the U.S. that would train me to work in the OR. And I graduated in 1986. They all wanted someone with at least one year training in OR. How does one get the training to be an experienced OR nurse without being given a chance? But I was also looking for relocation allowance and a hire on bonus, so perhaps that was asking too much

Thank you so much for your information. The lady who I talked to regarding the internship at Baylor is in Irwing. She told me that their hospital in Irwing doesn't now have 12 hr shift for OR nurses. But I guess this is not my biggest concern. All I want to find out is what is the minimium I will have to work if I decide to do their internship there. It will be okay if I can work 64 hr but 80 will be a little bit of a sacrify for me and my family. Do you think that you can ask your traveler nurse about the hours? I just want to know what is their definition of full time in OR. Thanks!
