Will being a diabetic prevent me from getting into lvn school?

  1. I was wondering if I would still be able to get into lvn school even though I am a diabetic? I have been one for 21 years. Do they even go that deep into "questions"? What kind of exam will they want? will it be a physical or "background" stuff? Please email .

No diabetes should not prevent you from getting into school or becoming a nurse. Good luck to you.

Employers do physicals for work but are more concerned about conditions that will cause lost work hours or predispose to on the job injuries , in my experience. There may be some concern but you should fare OK IF you are healthy in general and can meet the job description. Perhaps others here have had different experiences, but I work with quite a few nurses who are diabetics.

I certainly would not hide the fact. No reason. In my class we had a diabetic with one leg amputated. She was a good student and managed all her clinicals and is now working with the Health Dept. I am diabetic and have never missed a day of work due to that reason (thank goodness). Go for it!
