thinking about harris methodist fort worth

Hi all!

New to this site. Recently moved and am thinking of doing a travel assignment in fort worth. Has anybody worked at harris methodist in fort worth and what the icu conditions are like...i.e. patient ratios, is it a teaching facility, surgical and medical icu all mixed together w/ trauma? Any info is helpful! Thanks!

Loved Harris when I worked there 10 years ago - great people to work with, decent ratios and nice pay.

I'd work there again if I still lived there...

Oh - they had seperate Trauma, Neuro, Cardio, CV, MedSurg and step down ICU's.

It is not a teaching facility.

I have a friend that works there, in a long term vent area - and loves it.

But due to Group One and infrared trackers on site - I'd never work there.

Group One is an organization comprised mostly of Dallas area hospitals that have formalized their ability to keep track of nursing employees in and out of the Dallas area. When you leave, your supervisor can make a statement as to why you left and their general impression of you - and all the other Group One facilities can read it and use it in their hiring determination. It bypasses the standard of former employers only being able to tell new employers hire dates and whether you quit or was termed.

But it allows subjective data (your former boss's opinion) to be used as criteria for new employment. In other words, it allows you to be blackballed.

Infrared trackers are devices you wear that track where you are at all times and within 15 or so feet within the hospital. It allows your employer to keep track of how much time you spend in patient care areas, and how long it takes you to answer your call buttons. They are designed to force you to comply to efficiency standards. (it's not how well you do something, but how fast). They are anti-pt advocate.

OMG how awful, those hospitals are going to get to the point were no one wants to work for them and then what are they going to do! thats a bunch of bull s@#t! it shouldnt matter if your supervisor likes you, it should matter how well you do your job!!!

ALL of the hospitals in the DFW area participate in Group One to my knowledge.

Othere areas have their own versions - trust me! You just may not be aware of them (even worse in my opinion)

I just started my VN clinical rotation there last week, and we defininetly aren't the only nursing school there, I've seen TCC and others. So far it's been great.
