Public Transportation in Dallas

  1. Hey guys!

I am going to be starting at TWU next week and while I am excited about starting, I am not so excited about riding DART. I was wondering if anybody knew if TWU offered discounted DART passes for students and if it is more convienent than driving. I just moved this summer to McKinney. Thanks!

I dont know if TWU offers discounted passes, but DART might offer discounted student passes with your student ID.

I will say that if the weather is bad, be prepared for that, it is a bit of a walk from the train to the TWU building and there is no shelter on the way. It's about 3 blocks - but fairly long blocks in my opinion. I never bothered to wait around for the UTSW shuttle to see exactly where it goes - it may be that it runs right from the train to TWU. I only rode the train down there twice.

(actually - looking at the website, it doesnt look like the shuttle goes to TWU at all)

if you are planning to ride the bus, be prepared! it is an eye opening experience. the light rail and tre train are a little better. i would do a test run this week because public transport can take a lot longer than if you were just drive there. if you drive, you will have to buy a parking sticker or get there early enough to park on on the side of the street were you are able to for free.

guage14iv, the 3 blocks is more like 1/2 a mile. i walked it a few times last semester and it was a really good trek.

twu does not offer a discount on dart passes but most hospitals do, i wonder if while we are in clinical, they will let us buy them at their discounted rate?

see you in class next week. have you finished all the reading? i have the jarvis reading left to do.

I did a test run to see how long it would take. It actually took about 2 and a half hours on the light rail and TRE. It's just with gas prices so high right now and having to commute from McKinney it doesn't seem reasonable to drive. Although neither does a 1/2 mile trek carrying all those books! I guess it comes down to time or money. I am lucky though, I was able to get a clinical assignment in Plano so it won't be so bad.

I just finished all of the reading. I'm excited to finally get going next week. It should be interesting!

Maybe you will be able to find a carpool once classes start - that would help save on some gas money.

OH! And you might check out the DART express bus routes - they start at outlying transit centers and go all the way downtown without stoping - they are usually even faster than the trains, and they are the big cushy tour bus kinda busses.
