We all know that new grad positions in Dallas/Austin/San Antonio and Houston and extremely competitive so where are there good, decent hospitals in outside of those urban areas (but near them) that would be great to start out as a new grad?

Wichita Falls and Tyler were both rumored at one point to still be new grad friendly, but that was over six months ago, so it may be different now. Amarillo, Corpus Christi maybe, Lubbock are all smaller urban areas. I have no idea if they are new grad friendly or not.

Anywhere near a major urban area is still going to be saturated to be honest. Living in DFW, Houston, San Antonio... you just get used to having to spend a lot of time in the car. Long drives are a way of life in Texas, so a hospital 45 minutes to an hour or more outside of the metroplex would not bother a lot of people. The rural areas that are still hiring are likely quite rural and not near the cities. The only place I have seen still recruiting are places along the US/Mexico border.

Thanks so much for your response! I'll be down in Texas in March and I intend on visiting some hospitals in each city. How about hospitals outside of the Med Centers...like Tenet Health..and HCA?

I don't know anything really about Tenet. HCA owns a lot of the hospitals here, as does THR (Texas Health Resources). I have never differentiated between a hospital and a med center, so I am not sure if I am understading your question correctly?

Can anyone give some information on Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. I am considering relocating to the area, and could use some helpful tips. It appears that this is a nice place to work, but most hospital websites will only share their positive side. I don't want to be negative, just realistic. Thank you.

Did you find info on Hendrick. I am also moving there and looking. Just wondering. Thanks.
