LoneStar CyFair College Fall 2009

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for all of us who will be starting the CyFair program this Fall 2009. Congratulations to all of you!

:yeah:

To those who are on the wait list, don't give up! From what I've read in the previous threads Lonestar does try to get you into their programs! Good luck to everyone!

I got the same email...

I didn't know we had to get scrubs this semester! I guess I will have to make a trip up to the school after all. Does anyone know what color they are? And are there any other supplies we will need besides the books and scrubs? My guess is I will have to buy a stethoscope too. I've read in other threads the 3M Littmann Lightweight is good to get. Anyone else have any opinions? Or...do we not need it yet?

Luckymama21 - are you registured yet?

CreoleFromtheBoot - that is awesome about the clinic prices... I wish it were closer though. Did you just walk in and wait or did you make an appointment?

I just walked in and filled out a couple of papers and was seen less than two hours later (no appt.). I received the mmr, dtap, varicella, and ppd shot. They're pretty familiar with LoneStar nursing program so she knew what I needed. Apparently this is where most of the nursing students come to get their shots. I wish I knew about this before I paid $130 for my Hep B shots.

BTW... don't forget to bring all your paperwork (including your shot records) so they can fill it out.

DjNyla,

I called the bookstore after receiving the email and was told the scrub tops are orange with blue trim and the pants are ORANGE! I've seen cyfair nurses wear blue pants but I guess they've changed it.

Hi there, thanks so much for the information! That's great to know. I was wondering how much it was going to run me to get that done. I'm glad there's a cheaper alternative. Thanks again! :)

CreoleFromtheBoot,

LOL! I'm going to look like a PUMPKIN! :hhmth:

I am also starting the ADN program at cy-fair in fall 2009.

Oh no! It's all orange now?!

I was told during orientation that we don't need scrubs yet.

The scrub tops are orange with blue trim and the pants are navy blue. Make sure you have a watch with a second hand.... I'm not sure if they told you but you need a blood pressure cuff along with your stethescope and make sure you buy one of those clips to put your ID card in. If you need any more info just ask... I'm in the class just above you guys

does anyone know anything about the varicella vaccine? What if you had the chickenpox as a child. If now record, how do you prove you had them? Does Cy Fair require the vaccine to be administered? I know some colleges only need a letter from you stating that you had them.

thanks

I know this is awhile after the original post but from what I understand about the chicken pox vaccine if you had it when you were younger you have to have a titer done.

And are there any other supplies we will need besides the books and scrubs?

You'll need the patches as well, take the coupon you received at registration to the bookstore and you can get them there.

Luckymama21 - are you registured yet?

NO! I guess Nursing admin felt like sending that email after all the pestering I've been doing. I will complete my physical this Friday and with that I should be all set, plan to visit with the Nursing admin next Tuesday to make sure I get registered... Books are starting to arrive from Amazon:yeah:

Thanks, already got the titer. My vaccine records were submitted a while back, before orientation, I'm all set.
