LoneStar CyFair College Fall 2009

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for all of us who will be starting the CyFair program this Fall 2009. Congratulations to all of you!

:yeah:

To those who are on the wait list, don't give up! From what I've read in the previous threads Lonestar does try to get you into their programs! Good luck to everyone!

I just called back the bookstore to confirm the color of scrub bottoms we will be wearing and it appears that they don't have a clue. Im hoping this means the lady earlier was wrong and that they are sticking with blue pants because orange... well, that's just not funny!! Besides, it doesn't make sense for them to change it so I think it's safe to say they're blue.

I just came from the bookstore, bought two sets of scrubs (tops are orange and pants are blue), also got two patches to go with them. I understand that they will be ordering on bulk and they tell me that they won't have them available unless you order them, not sure if they will order again next semester. Didn't know exactly how many to get, so just got two pairs. Does anyone know if these will be used only during clinicals or are we going to have to wear them to class as well?

I'm in the morning block, spoke with a counselor to figure out what's going on with my registration, seems they had a hold on my TSI math requirements even though I completed all the requirements, they tell me they will fix it tomorrow, we'll see...

About SCRUBS

I emailed Ms. Monteiro about the scrubs issues and this is what she had to say...we will not need them until 2nd semester when we start clinical, but there might be a deadline for ordering them through the bookstore. If we decide to order them somewhere else, they do need to be the same exact colors.

Will you be in the morning block or afternoon block?

I am in the morning block. I can't respond through private messages until I have 15 posts according to the help section, that's why I didn't just email you back.

Do you know what is included in that nurses kit?

What is this nurses kit you speak of?

There is a nurses kit that is included in our tuition that Im sure will be given to us when school starts.

Citigirl43 wrote "Nurses kits include pen light, scissors everything you need to practice skills...iv bags catheters, bandages vials to practice drawing medication, gown gloves ect... "

Hope this helps

does anyone know what tuition will be per semester?

does anyone know what tuition will be per semester?

For in-district students this semester, it's $524.00. That's including 6 hour, insurance, extra fees that the college passes on to us...

Here's the break down:

Registration Fee - 12.00

Technology Fee - 42.00

Distance Learning Fee - 10.00

General Use Fee - 12.00

Liability Insurance - 19.00

In-District Tuition - 228.00

Lab Fee - 18.00

Student Activity Fee - 12.00

Nurse Supply Pack - 133.00 (see previous posts as to what this is)

Testing Fee-Nursing - 38.00

If all fees stay the same (I'm not sure if they do) you would just have to change the In-District Tuition fee to match the number of hours you are registured for... I hope they fix your registration soon luckymama21!

For those that still need to purchase textbooks, I was able to buy mine on half.com at a very reasonable price. They are all brand new books and are in great shape and it only cost me $280.00 for all ten (which includes the recommended handbook). Actually there are some cheaper than I paid but I just wanted mine brand new to guarantee the cd and access code. I purchased them on July 16th and today the last three arrived so I didn't have to wait long at all. HTH.

Does anybody know how much the scrubs cost?

I saw that youtube thing you mentioned yesterday...LOL...did you count how many were in the graduating class? 19! Yes, that's it...out of a program that starts with 40-50 students! Ouch! For those of you interested type in, "cyfair nursing youtube" in your favorite search engine. You will be able to see pictures of past nursing students, what our uniforms will look like, etc...

It is just a slide show, but at least you will know what the uniforms look like if you don't know already.

Luckymama21 - if you don't mind, could you post how much the scrubs cost in the bookstore (top and pants)? Also, are the pants elastic band or drawstring type? I'll be visiting a friend in the Woodlands today so I plan on stopping by Scrubs Etc. over there and seeing their prices and also what other supplies they might have. I'll try to post it later today or tonight.

OK...

I went to "Scrubs Etc" today. They only have a store in the Woodlands/Spring area and in Conroe. They offer a student discount... 20% off the needed school supplies (uniforms, BP cuff, badge holder, stethoscope) and 15% off everything else. I didn't check on the shoes. They allow you to try the scrubs on too. The woman I spoke with said she believes CyFair uses the scrub brandname of "Urbane" (is this right luckymama21?). They do have them there, tops and pants. Now, for the pants, they had the Urbane drawstring. There are other pants there the same exact color with elastic band and some with a combination elastic/drawstring, but not Urbane brandname. They carry all sizes. The price I'm listing are for sizes S-XL, if you need 2X the sales woman said to add $2 or $3.

Urbane Tops: 22.99 ($18.39 w/discount)

Elastic band pants: 21.99 ($17.59 w/discount)

ID badge holder: $4.99-12.99 (ranges from plain colors to ones with decorative gems)

Plain BP cuff: $24.99 ($19.99 w/discount) There were decorative ones there too, but I didn't price them.

I forgot to price stethoscopes since I already have one. I ordered the Littmann Lightweight II S.E. from Amazon and I love it. I'm able to hear everyones heartbeat without any problems.

Anyways, the Scrubs, Etc. store website is www.scrubsetcstore.com You will not be able to see what products they have unless you go in person. The address is:

26456 I-45

The Woodlands, TX 77386

If you do decide to drive up there from Houston area, take I-45 N, exit Robinson Rd (Exit 76A).

The tops are $14.85 and the pants are $17.45 for the cargo pants and $17.02 for the draw strings (I didn't get any with elastic). I also ordered two lab coats, they run $16.63.

CreoleFromtheBoot,

Great price on those books, will have to check them out next semester. I already got all my books from Amazon.

By the way, make sure you order patches for your lab coats too...
