Corpus Christi anyone?

U.S.A. Texas

I'm in CA and got a call from a recruiter looking for RNs in Corpus Christi area. I've read many forums regarding saturated RNs in big cities unable to find jobs...

It seems like they are hiring heavily in Corpus Christi... is it overall a good area? Any thoughts?

I only recently graduated high school, so I am not sure about what nursing would be like there, but I can say that I love Corpus Christi. I live in the DFW area, but I visit Corpus whenever the opportunity arises. It's a nice place, with a small town feel. There isn't much to do, but Padre Island isn't too far and I think it's beautiful. I actually plan to transfer to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to pursue my BSN after I finish my freshman year at University of North Texas.

Corpus Christi has a lot to offer! Coming from CA, you will be blown away by the extremely low housing costs (by CA standards) even for beach front property. It is a windsurfing mecca with a great climate, no real traffic problems, and very friendly people. It has all the usual shopping venues, but if you hanker for more, it's only 3 hours to San Antonio, 4 hours to Houston or 3 hours to Mexico!!

The TX Gulf coast is a lot more quirky than the sanitized 'beautiful people' beaches in CA - and a lot more diverse. Corpus (as with many So TX cities) has a majority-minority (Latino) population. FYI, Houston is the most diverse large city in the nation now (per 2010 census data). No state income tax. Much lower gasoline prices than CA.

Hospital wise, the major player is CHRISTUS Spohn - 3 hospitals in the city & 3 more in surrounding rural communities. They have the regional trauma center, chest pain center, etc.
