Blinn Nursing - Fall 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I've noticed that there is one post from 2008 asking about Blinn nursing school. I figured I'd give this a shot anyways. I was accepted into the Blinn nursing program for fall 2010. I was wondering if there was anyone else on the site that was accepted into this program as well? Anyone in my class? Anyone with experience/advice about Blinn? I'd like to know what I need to do/buy and what may be more of a waste of money (like half of the books that I bought for classes in my bachelor degree were useless). Anyways, I hope to hear from someone! lol

There's NO Blinn nurses on here? :(

I'm interested in applying for the Spring. I went to Blinn a few years ago before transferring to A&M. I noticed it says you have to go there to pick up an application? Are they not available on the web?

You have to apply to Blinn College (like the general application) which you can do through the Apply Texas website but the actual nursing program application you have to pick up in the ADN office in the health building. Actually every nursing school does that which is a real pain in the butt! I drove all over Texas during my last semester at A&M which did not mix well with biochemistry.

Really? That stinks! I was hoping it would be available online so I wouldn't have to drive 3 hours just for that!

hey heather. Well i attend blinn in bryan and wanted to ask you a few questions. well i plan on applying for the adn program nxt spring for fall 2011. For the entrance exam, how did you do?? Do you know really what the program checks for beside the exam scores ? I have a GPA of 3.3 right now, but am gonna work so hard in anatomy & micro this semester and next so im praying it will go up!!! Just super curious to know how you got in!!! Good luck this semester!!!

Hey! I would recommend going to an informational session. Last summer I went and the lady told us what the entrance essay topic was. It's the same every year. I can't really remember specifically but it was like what are the qualities of a nurse, how you exemplify those qualities, and what your ultimate career goals are. I wrote my essay the day before and memorized it. Honestly, I feel like no one else did that and you only have 30 min and I spent all of that writing. The TEAS test wasn't nearly as easy as the HESI and I bought a Kaplan book to study with. I made in the 99th percentile in the nation on the TEAS. The criteria is your essay, TEAS test results, and your GPA. My GPA wasn't that great but the other 2 pushed me through the door. Remember your GPA is your prereq GPA so for me that was higher than my overall GPA since a couple classes killed me at A&M. Hope this helps! Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Really? The nursing program doesn't look at your overall GPA when they consider you? Well thats great news for me! :p

Hey, I was thinking about applying to the nursing program in Bryan for Fall 2011 but I have a few questions. This nursing degree idea came to me not too long ago, but ever since then I've really done my research and I'm very excited! I am currently in the Fall Semester 2010 of my sophomore year and I was originally going to pursue business. I have take 54 hours (including this semester). This of course puts me behind but I still have some classes that would count towards my ADN. There are 12 hours of prerequisites that I still need, and unfortunately all are sciences with labs. Even if I took these in the Spring 2011, when I apply will admissions see that I'm taking those? What will my chances be since I haven't already completed them? Any information would help. Thanks!

Your chances are best if you take as many of the prereqs as possible. I took all of mine so I would recommend that although there are a few girls taking A&P 2 and random ones like english. It's definitely easiest if you don't have to worry about taking A&P on top of nursing classes. I entered nursing school after graduating from Texas A&M so there's nothing wrong with taking longer than 2 years. Maybe just focus on only taking prerequisites. I definitely wouldn't take 3 sciences at once though. That's a big load and it could affect your GPA.

Once you apply, you take the TEAS test and write an essay on one of about 2 days. This past year it was April 16 and 17th. I didn't receive my acceptance letter until June 2nd. They don't make any decisions until final transcripts are received from Spring semester so don't worry about that being an issue.

I have turned in my nursing school ap at Blinn and I am waiting for the letter telling me if I have qualified to take the TEAS exam. Does anyone know about how long I should expect to wait for the letter? Or if they send a letter notifying you if you have not been invited to take the exam? I'm really on pins and needles b/c acceptance or denial makes a huge inpact on my next steps...

Hey! I applied too but I do not know about when they will mail letters... their system is really different.
