Hi. I am on the process of getting endorsed to Texas since my license endorsement in Maryland is taking ages. My agent told me its the easiest way out of getting a license issued in any other states in the US. I am off to US in September, so I badly need to work this out.

My question is, has anyone of you tried doing the so called Texas Nursing Jurisdiction Exam?? I duno how this one goes so if in case you got any idea or information, please be kind enough to help. I have just started to make researches I guess. But still, nothing compares if i get info from people who already took such exam.

I hope someone nice or a lot of you would comment back.

Thanks in advance!!!

The Texas jurisprudence exam is very easy. It is also open book. Do not waste your time or money buying the book, they are giving out the wrong one. The exam is actually open book. You can open up another browser window and search any terms that you need to look up. The questions all have very obvious answers, but again, just search any specific laws of the nursing practice act as you come upon them. There are only a few questions that actually refer to a specific law anyway. Good luck!

There's also an online course you can take to help prepare you for the exam. It costs $25. http://bon.enspire.com/jep/course

I still find it strange as your place of employment for the H1b visa was Virginia but you do not know where you will be working. H1b is employer based so I would have thought Virginia would be where you are based.

I think they are trying to avoid sitting for the CGFNS exam by getting a license in a compact state.

yeah, I have taken this Texas NJExam last July09. My only Advice is that, You study the online review, do a bit of reading on the Texas Board of Nursing-dont memorize, but understand the concepts. Finaly, and most importantly, USE your critical thinking, (test taking skills). And I will ASSURE you, that You will PASS. Easy Exam-Good Luck my friend.:yeah:

I thought you needed 3 years experience in a specialized field in order to qualify for a H1b visa. Check up on it and make sure that you're fully qualified. Also if you don't have a specific employer, then chances are that there is something fishy about the whole thing and there is probably something that you don't know. Make sure you're fully aware about what's going on because in the end, the agency will pin point everything on you, if you were found to be unqualified for the visa. Good Luck

well I am sure enough I am fully qualified for that H1b visa.. just that its really pretty weird when i was told there would be another interview for prospect employers when we get there. I mean, all the while I was thinking we already got a job waiting for us.. idk.. anyway, i wana think positively on this regard though. I got the visa, I got the flight details, and Im off next month..

anyway, thank you for the concern

I thought the H1b visa had to be for a specific hospital. If you don't know where you're working, then chances are you don't have a direct employer. If you don't have a direct employer then how can one get a H1b visa? It sounds like whom ever got you the visa is doing things crooked. I don't know about other states, but if you're going to California, the H1b visa holders are being investigated because some are abusing the visa. Good Luck next month.

hi..thanks for d reply.

all i can say back for an answer would be based from the info in the embassy packet they sent me.. that id eventually be working in Veterans Ad. sumthing, somwhere in Chantilly VA. but after all the papers done, i was physically and mentally drained doing stuffs as to application for license endorsements, first to Maryland, then to Texas.. and when I asked my local agent where exactly is my state of deployment, all I could get is that she isnt sure of yet..oh well, goodluck to me really.. lols..

If you're working in a VA hospital then you can have a license from any state. It's a government facility. But that's so weird that they would use a H1b visa for a Veterans hospital. That's a first that I've heard of, but maybe someone can shed some light on that one. Just becareful who you talk to, and if anybody from work asks about your visa, don't say anything as to what type of visa. People are so quick to turn people in. I saw it in my own hospital. Just keep to yourself and don't shed any light how you got here.

thats precisely one reason why they wanted me to endorse my license in Texas, no need for SSN, and i could just easily get a license. its not that i dont wana work in Texas, bt i prefer VA over that coz its nearer to relatives' place.. anyway, i hope to keep in touch with you.

thanks for replying. really appreciate your comments and opinions. :)

To work in a VA Hospital you must be a US Citizen.

From the VA Web Page

RN Position

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. Citizenship

Must pass pre-employment examination.

Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.

Background and/or Security Investigation required.

I would find it very strange that the VA would have H1B visas for nurses.

To the OP:

I would have to agree with the above posters on this one. Be careful and research this job opportunity well in order to avoid any mishap when you arrive in the US.

The Department of Veterans Affairs which includes medical facilities across the US and other countries ONLY employs citizens of the United States. This is a well-known fact (at least in Filipino circles in the US) and even resident aliens who are authorized to work in the United States are NOT eligible for employment in their facilities. It is indeed bizarre that you are being told that a VA Facility is sponsoring your H1B Visa. Also do some research on the locations of VA Medical Centers across the US. I don't see a medical facility operated by the Veterans Affairs located in Chantilly when I did an internet search although there is an out-pt facility in Charlottesville but that's nowhere near Chantilly.

Are they trying to confuse you by saying VA Facility which could mean a healthcare facility in the State of Virginia versus a healthcare facility run by the Department of Veterans Affairs? Those are two entirely different entities. I also don't see any civilian, private or even public-funded hospitals located in Chantilly as you are being told. The Chantilly area is close to Fairfax where there is a hospital owned by Inova, a large hospital corporation in Virginia. The closest metropolitan areas to Chantilly are Bethesda in Maryland and the Washington, DC area and there are definitely major hospitals in those two cities. But as already mentioned by others, you'll have to be licensed in those states if you are to work in the hospitals in those locations. DC is technically not a state but they do have their own Board of Nursing that issues RN licenses in that jurisdiction.

You need to be "absolutely certain, without any doubt" know for sure what facility is sponsoring your H1B Visa. I hope I am making it clear that this is something that can not be stressed enough for any foreign nurse coming to the US. If you already have the visa stamped on your passport, look at it very closely. If I remember it right (from my H1A Visa many years ago), there is a line where it says "Petitioner" and there should be a name of a facility indicated. Look up the name of the facility on the internet. If at all possible, have your relatives in the US check it out. There is a possibility that a nursing home or a staffing agency in Chantilly is sponsoring the H1B Visa but that would really make it quite fishy if that's the case.

Best of luck to you.
