U.S.A. Texas

I just hung up the phone with the Texas BNE. They told me that since Indiana State University was approved by the NLN anyone completing this program could sit for the NCLEX. They say any program must be NLN approved or you cannot sit for the boards. They also told me they were having a meeting tomm and the Excelceir College is under review. They are concerned that this program does not have a clinical componet through out the program . She said if they restricted grads from taking the NCLEX it would be within the next three months....

You might already be familiar with this thread, but Shotzie from South Texas posted this:

"I know that when I worked as a nurse recruiter my hospital and all the others around us did not consider that a valid degree and would not hire these graduates, even with a nursing shortage going on."

Just some info from a non-California person.

:coollook:

Thanks, I did read that previously and did respond to her a while back. I think that she said she was from out in San Antonio which I can't speak for as I never attempted to gain employment out there.

I asked her about it because every hospital in the Houston and Dallas area that I applied at offered me a position. No one ever mentioned my being an Excelsior grad and it is very plain to see on my resume.

I've also never since heard any negative comments or info on Excelsior and I've worked at many different hospitals in Dallas and now in the Houston area. One Excelsior student is working as a student nurse in the ER and in my ICU right now and I think he's doing great. Everyone knows that he is an Excelsior student and no one ever mentions anything negative about it. I'm getting all of my info about how bad Excelsior is off the internet. That's why I wanted to hear from some non-California people.
