Texas Lutheran University DE-MSN

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I couldnt find a thread for this so I figured I would make one. I am applying for the Spring of 2023 DE-MSN program and I was told that only 20 spots remaining. I was hoping someone here already got accepted and wouldn't mind sharing their stats. I'm waiting on my 3 reference letters to be completed then I will be submitting my application.

Well when I was 17 and working on my Associate Degree I had a 1 year old and an infant and was basically a single mom working full time so I did online classes. I also knew nothing about for profit colleges, so I picked a bad one. I went to AIU online and they tore through my student loans. The combination of that and my other loans to get my bachelor degree in education maxed me out so. So I want the DEMSN because I will be able to use student loans at a graduate level and because simply I want to get MSNif it is only 4 months longer. How about you?

Makes sense! I want to get my PMHNP certification so I’d need a masters or higher degree than just a BSN. I’m kinda considering eventually going to CRNA though so until I sort that out a normal MSN without the specialty seemed to be a good fit. I figure with how competitive nursing is I may as well shoot to get a guaranteed spot in a masters program if I could then just apply for the certificate after I’m done. I hope through clinical I can officially decide what path I want to take since I’m also interested in trauma/ICU ?

I also considered a PMHNP before LVN, but after clinicals in Oby/Gyn I am considering CNM or WHNP. A few practitioners I spoke with at work said to consider getting a FNP and then specializing later. They also said a post masters certificate is better because if I don't like it it is only 6 months to a year and I can do something else LOL

That makes sense! ? I’ll probably do the FNP. We spent ALL DAY in New Braunfels yesterday trying to figure out living arrangements and what not but I loved how the campus is actually inside a hospital and how new everything was LOL

I enjoyed the tour and I am waiting to find out now, but I might not be getting in because of my grades from 2008 ?. I had to do a low GPA appeal and am waiting to hear back.

Don’t lose hope!! I had to get an appeal for 2 classes because I took them over 7 years ago and still got accepted so. They’re pretty quick with getting you an answer

Well my appeal finally went through so now I am just waiting to hear from the nursing committee. She sent them my application today. How long after your appeal did you find out?

My appeal decision came back the same day I submitted it but I was still waiting on 2 more of my professors to do their reference letters before I could submit my application. I officially submitted the application Friday July 29th around 3pm and got my acceptance call Aug. 9th at 11am.

Oh gosh!! Yes! I have soooo many questions ?? especially about the homework and test load the first semester. It looks like they’re trying to put us all in the pressure test with comprehensive Pathophysiology alongside pharm ?
