Texas Lutheran University DE-MSN

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I couldnt find a thread for this so I figured I would make one. I am applying for the Spring of 2023 DE-MSN program and I was told that only 20 spots remaining. I was hoping someone here already got accepted and wouldn't mind sharing their stats. I'm waiting on my 3 reference letters to be completed then I will be submitting my application.

Following - Plan to apply after taking Patho and Chem. Currently an LVN

I can’t seem to find a lot of experiences from previous students on their program but I’m going to continue to think positive LOL

I completed my application. I didn't know that you could start the application before you finish prereqs. Going for a tour of the campus tommorrow. Nothing else new. How about you?

I submitted my application last week so I’m just waiting to hear back now on if I got a spot. If I get accepted I plan to go tour it!

I know I’m so nervous since they have limited spots. I’m hoping to find out soon too. I decided to go ahead and do the tour because I want to know what the drive is going to be like. I live in Northeast San Antonio. Are you far from the campus?

I just got the call that I've been accepted! I'm so excited (minus figuring out now how to pay for tuition LOL) That's understandable! How did the tour go? I'm going on Thursday to see everything. I will have to move there.

My tour is around 4 o'clock so I haven't went yet. I'm so glad you got the call! I'm still waiting. If you don't mind me asking what were your stats for your TEAS and your GPA? I also didn't have three of my prerequisites but I am currently taking them. She said that would matter but I don't know. I'm trying to worry less LOL

I gotcha! Honestly my stats were not terrific but I think all my extracurricular stuff along with the references I had are what really got me in. My TEAS was a 79, I think she said my science GPA came out to a 3.2 and then my cumulative GPA was a 3.67. However I am in honors college too and due to graduate this December with honors along with over 200 hours over volunteer and community service hours. I think it also probably helps that I am a TA for Microbiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology 1, and Human Anatomy & Physiology 2

Oh Okay, that’s really great that you have those experiences and I’m sure your experience with science really helps. Well I have two good references. I have no community service though. I have been working as an LVN though for six months. My TEAS score overall was 84%, but my science was only at 70.5%. My pre-req  and Science GPA was good 4.0, but I had to do a low GPA appeal because my associates degree that I did when I was 19 made my overall bachelor degree GPA come out to a 2.94. I did graduate with honors though from my LVN Program and my bachelor degree. Hopefully this is enough

Honestly I wouldn’t worry about it! You sound like a very solid candidate for it. My associates is what brought mine down some too from back when I was 19 and a lot less responsible LOL Statistics also brought mine down since I got a C in it.
being an LVN is worth a lot in my opinion! Even more so than volunteering I would think. You had a really good TEAS score too which helps.

Do you mind me asking why you decided on the DE-MSN route vs just the ABSN route??

Well when I was 17 and working on my Associate Degree I had a 1 year old and an infant and was basically a single mom working full time so I did online classes. I also knew nothing about for profit colleges, so I picked a bad one. I went to AIU online and they tore through my student loans. The combination of that and my other loans to get my bachelor degree in education maxed me out so. So I want the DEMSN because I will be able to use student loans at a graduate level and because simply I want to get MSNif it is only 4 months longer. How about you?
