tested positive on drug screen!!!!

Published

So, I had the physical exam and blood and urine tests done for my new job. I got a call saying my drug test came out positive!!!! I DO NOT use illegal drugs. I have been taking a few prescription medications that I legally have been prescribed. I listed them on the paper including OTC advil and tylenol. I guess I should have asked what kind of drug I tested positive for, but for some reason I wasn't thinking of that. I have been on Cipro for a UTI so maybe that messed it up? I probably tested positive for benzos because I do take xanax on occasion and I think I did take it the day before. I was told to bring in all my prescription medications so some specialist at the lab can review my results. Has anyone ever had this happen? This is embarassing! The only other thing I can think of is second hand smoke from being at a party where a few people were smoking but it's not like I was even sitting next to them! I'm so worried. I have prescriptions for and have currently taken Xanax, Soma, Cipro, and propranolol within the last couple weeks. I stopped taking Zoloft about 2 months ago and I'm not sure if I should bring in my old prescription bottle? Any advice? I'm really worried because I want this job!

If you have scripts for the medications, you have nothing to worry about! Good luck!

If everything you said was on the up and up, you have little to worry about. I worked in a lab were we tested all new employees, and second hand pot smoke is not going to show up on a drug screen unless you were stuck in a confined space with it for a long time. I imagine it is your prescription meds that got flagged. Don't worry you will be fine.

thanks guys. I called the lady from employee health back and asked her what I tested positive for. She said she didn't have the paper in front of her, but she thought it was benzos. I just have to bring in my prescriptions. I didn't even think about taking xanax....if I was thinking, I would have just tried to avoid taking it for a while and live with the anxiety.

Do interviewers have to NOTIFY YOU if the test is POSITIVE? i always heard they do but i'm trying to figure out why i didn't get this one job after everything...but no mention of a drug test from them!

In your case, you will be absolutely fine if you bring in your Rx's. If they didn't want to bother, they wouldn't ask you to do that =) Good luck to you!!

It sounds like you probably tested positive for the Benzo's, it is part of the usual employment drug screen.
