Test question, just wanted your thoughts

Pt admitted to unit c T-101.8, cough, and pain rated 7/10. Which med would the nurse anticipate giving first?

a) antihistamine

b) antibiotic

c) Tylenol

d) Codeine

I can't remember which antihistamine and antibiotic were listed on the test by brand name.

I just wondered what you guys would have chosen as your answer.

Nowhere is it stated that a culture has not been done. It's asking you to a) guess what's the most important thing wrong with the patient, and b) guess what you'd give for it.

Physical needs trump psychological issues like pain.

Fever + cough = likely infection.

Antibiotic = likely treatment.

I'd guess antibiotic. No point treating the fever or pain if the patient dies of an untreated infection.
