what is a tertiary hospital?

I don't know what "tertiary hospital" means - nurses in advanced practice roles are employed at tertiary hospitals.

It is just the major receiving hospital in a particular area. Smaller facilities will use it as their resource center. They usually have a full complement of the specialty services, such as neuro-surgery, NICU, PICU, open heart surgery, etc.

Advanced practice nurses can practice at any type of facility........Small or large.
