Tennessee Tech Center Nashville LPN program

Published

In the process of finishing up the application. Any else in the area applying to TTC Nashville for nursing??

Hope everyone in the May class can make it in safely tomorrow... Crazy that our first day of class couldn't happen due to the floods! Totally heartbreaking to see the catastrophic losses in middle TN and beyond. Hope everyone is safe and dry.

Nicky,

Basic math plus algebra from what I remember. Others here may be able to be more specific. (It's not too difficult, because I passed it, and math is NOT my thing.)

The resources below are listed on the school's website and are pretty good to pull study questions from:

REVIEW MATERIALS:

  • COMPLETE GED book. ISBN: 0-9675446-4-5 (Steck-Vaughn)
  • COMPLETE GED book. ISBN: 0-8092-9469-9 (Contemporary)
  • Practice Tests are available on the internet by going to Compass Practice Test.

I used one of the GED books plus a Math for Dummies type Algebra book that I got at the library for a little extra "oomph".

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks Denise! Math is not my strong point either...So Ill pray I pass. Have a great day!!

Question for those of you enrolled with Financial Aid. How did you go about purchasing books? Did they give out a book voucher?

LOTS of out of pocket expense. Books, physical, lab work, uniforms, etc... Payment for books and all fees are due at registration.

Question. For those of you already enrolled, What does your class schedule look like? What class and what times? When do you lunch? Do you get to choose these things or are they chosen for you? Can you pick your instructor? Just trying to get a general idea of what I can expect in September. Thanks!

to gbj2b: i graduated from here in december so i can offer how it was up til that point. Classes are EVERY day. 745am to 215pm when in the classroom. About halfway through the program you begin clinicals which are 3 days a week from 630am to 1pm (but depends on how longwinded your instructor is during post conference!). Keep in mind you're still going 5 days a week during clinicals: 3 days at clinicals and 2 in the classroom. You cannot pick your instructor; they randomly place you in a group with one. Lunches vary greatly, but you always get one (as opposed to some jobs). Also, during my year there I noticed a lot of unnecessary drama..students, instructors, all kinds. You just gotta go with the flow and not let anything get to you. Also, just a tip, some instructors (the only male one when I attended fyi) are REAL big on respect. I saw a girl get asked to leave because of her attitude during classroom discussion.

Hope this helps. TTCN is always in motion; things constantly change. But I think the basic structure is probably the same.

Good luck in all you do!

Thanks for the reply. I went to MTSU for awhile so I wasnt sure if it was like that or not. In the sense of picking your own instructors and choosing the length in between classes. So it's basically like High School. You have to ask to go to the restroom, You're told when to eat and DRAMA. Thanks for all the info.:)

gbj2b, you have classes everyday 745-215 you have either 2 or 3 classes a day it depends. you will receive a calender on the first day that will let you know your class schedule for the first trimester. you don't get to pick your instructors. your lunch is usually at 11:45-12:15 but sometimes changes, it depends on the teacher. clinicals don't start until your 2nd trimester so you don't have to worry about that right now. but you are in the same classroom all day and your instructors just come and go. hope this helps a little bit!!

Are we allowed to leave campus for lunch?

Yes you can leave campus for lunch (thank God!), and there are several restaurants of all kinds in the White Bridge Rd area. And YES! it is a lot like high school. It's a solid year (if you go full time) of 5 days/week classes, so it's somewhat intense just for that fact and the drama factor. The actual material..as long as you have a good amount of determination you will succeed!

Hope all goes well for you!
