temptation in NCLEX preparation..

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hey there guys! How are you preparing for NCLEX so far? I decided to have a self review in NCLEX intead of going to a review center. I already started to read the Saunders Book and plan to finish it for 6 weeks (as suzanne's suggested). However, I usually end up procrastinating and giving into temptation which is actually eating my time a lot instead of reading. Have you ever experience that? I would just like to ask what do you usually do to stay focused and to overcome temptations? (like for example hanging out with friends or watching tv, surfing for hours, etc..) Any post will be appreciated..Thanks much..God bless.:caduceus: :nuke:

Hi gumdrop! I had the same issue! What I did was "force" myself to do "X" number of chapters each day from Saunders. I would do questions or read for 45 minutes and take a break for an hour or two. Then, I would go back to studying. That way, I was able to watch all my shows, get on the internet, clean my house (it's for sale right now so this was a must for me, unfortunately- lol), play with my kids, etc. I also didn't go anywhere for a few weeks, but I live in the country and about an hour away from my friends and family, so this wasn't too hard. My family understood why I didn't go visit them for those weeks. I also only focused on what I needed to study, rather than trying to read every chapter. For the material I felt confident in (for me, OB, pedi, endocrine, CV, psych), I only did the questions at the end of each chapter. If I scored higher than 85%, I felt ok. If not, I read that chapter. For everything else, I read and wrote notes. That keeps you more focused than just reading the chapter. Then, I did the questions. I also felt like doing questions kept me more focused anyway because I wanted a certain percentage.

Good luck on studying!!!

As a student, our instructor already told us to complete/study 15,000 (yet, 15 thousand) questions before we complete the nursing program. So, I've already started doing NCLEX, even if at this point I don't have all the basic info needed, it is getting me in the mind set of how the NCLEX is set up and developing some level of confidence. I do worry about the NCLEX, however, I just have to have the faith that I'll succeed when the actual test is being taken.

I think that's a great idea, Quailfeathers! You'll do awesome and doing that will help you a lot while you're in school!!
