TEMPORARY LICENSES for GPNs waiting to take the boards?

U.S.A. New Jersey

:confused:I've just graduated, and I'm waiting to take my NCLEX-PN... does NJ issue GP temporary licenses? Does it automatically get issued when my application to take the boards is fully processed?

*** Oh, and I beg anyone who replies, please please please don't bother replying with "Your nursing instructors should have told you" or "Every answer you could wish for is easy to find and eloquently explained on the NJ Board of Nursing Web Site..."

Myself and everyone I've talked to from my class has been getting the runaround on this issue.

Ideas?

The simple answer is....no. You have to get your license.

Good luck.

let me add to my above post: It is my understanding that the board does not issue temporary licenses. I do not know if employers will hire you as a GPN and have you do CNA work(or the like). Anyway, I could be wrong. You should try calling(or e-mailing) the board. I will warn you though, I e-mailed them a question 2 weeks ago and still have not heard back.

Good luck.

the board of nursing in nj stop issuing license to graduate nurses. i think they stopping doing this like 4-5 years ago. so, you need to pass nclex to practice as a nurse.

Unfortuntely in NJ you MUST possess your license to practice as a nurse. You cannot get a nurse job without passing the NCLEX. You can get hired PENDING the outcome of your NCLEX but you will not start a day without passing it first. You could get hired on a pending basis and work as a tech until you pass with the guarantee of a nurse job once you pass. Other than that NJ does not issue temporary licenses (although PA does) and hospitals do not hire GN's.
