Tell me about your shifts, I'm curious!

I'm wondering about all of the different ways nurses can work a 40 hour week or a 20 hour week if you are part time. For instance, do you do a 12 hour shift each weekend with 2 8 hour shifts during the week, etc.? Does it vary week to week? Do you get to choose? I'm especially interested in what you do if you have children in school. I'm just trying to get a feel as to what is typical (if there is such a thing). TIA!

i'm in the UK

i work a mixture of ealry shifts 7.30am-3.30am lates 1.00pm 9.00pm

We work 3 x 12.5 hour shifts each week (paid for 34.5 hours) and then every 4th week we work one extra shift to bring the hours up to full time. We have RosterPro and can request our own shifts as long as we work a fair share of nights/days.

In NC I work 12 hours each shift for 3 nights a week from 7p-7am. We all do 12 hr shifts. There is part time as well, we have nurses that work just fri and sat nights so they can goto school or take care of kids at home.
