Tell me why I'll LOVE nursing

I'm making a career switch to nursing at 33 with 2 young children. Please tell me why I will love being a nurse. I need some affirmation that I'm making the right choice, even though I am thrilled about my plans. Thanks!

I agree - not everyone LOVES nursing. Some jobs are better than others.

The downside can involve

-working unfavorable hours

-getting 'called in' or 'called off' at short notice

-punitive management that is out of touch with their staff

-violent or abusive patients

-patients that just outright get on your nerves (excessive complaining, ect)

-working shortstaffed

-nasty coworkers or MD's (doesn't happen all the time, but I've dealt with my share)

-back stabbing coworkers

-unfair assignments

-being knee deep in body fluids (and poop)

-having to lift, reposition, ect morbidly obese pts.

-being on your feet for long periods of time

-not getting off work on time

-high turnover, nobody knows what they are doing.

If you can deal with these elements, you will do fine. They bother some people more than others. It is up to you.

There are alot of people who work in nursing for a year or two and then move on......i wonder why.
