Telecommute Jobs

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Is there anyone out there currently works as or previously worked as a nurse case manager or any other position that was a telecommute/work 100% from home? I'm looking for some insight on these positions. I've realized most of them are through insurance companies and I've seen mixed reviews. I've been considering this as an option as I'd love to eliminate a daily commute and I think it might work well for our growing family. I currently work in a family care office as a telephone triage nurse so I don't do a lot of direct patient care at the moment but I still get to interact with patients which is nice so this wouldn't be a major change from a hospital position with direct patient care for me.

Thanks for any advice!

If you have small children working from home is generally not the wonderful option you think it is. You will still need to have childcare. These types of positions are able to tell when you are logged in, keep record of your production level and in general make sure you are really working when you say you are working.

A lack of acute care experience recently may be a barrier to getting hired as well. Most of the positions for this type of case management want 2-5 years of acute care experience. Have you investigated the actual positions with the companies that hire for them?
