TEAS VI 2018

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hi all!

I took the TEAS VI today and received a 90.7%.

Here's what I did to study:

Momentrix ATI TEAS secrets - I took the practice tests twice each and I think I even took another one or two a third time. This helped me nearly ace the Math section for sure. I made flashcards out of the questions I missed for Anatomy/Physiology and studied that.

For getting better at the English (because this was my lowest score on the practice tests):

I downloaded and paid for the TEAS MASTERY app. It is $24.99 ...I think. I just kept practicing the English and Anatomy/Phys sections until I knew the stuff. PERIOD.

I got better at the reading just by doing all the practice tests. In addition, I purchased and practiced the ATI Practice TEST A and B. I did this after I took the three practice tests from Momentrix. I wanted to make sure I knew the real "language" that ATI was using. I also bought the ATI study guide and completed their English, Anatomy and some Math practice quizzes and section questions.

I think the Math and Reading are a matter of just practice, practice, practice. Learning the way that ATI writes was valuable so I really do recommend their practice tests and Study guide.

The Science threw me for a loop on the test (I got an 85.7% on that section but on all the practice tests I always earned above a 91%). There were some in depth physiology questions that I just didn't know/remember. I was also very tired at this point. I eliminated the questions I knew were definitely wrong but always came up with two choices...so I just guessed.

If I were to pick just ONE thing to study, I would say the TEAS mastery app. But I would not have known what to focus on without at least one practice test. So if you're tight on money, go for at least one ATI practice test so you can see where you are weak (it literally breaks it down and tells you where you suck) and then use the study app.

Hope this helps!

ps --- Go to bed early before the test. Get up early. Eat a good breakfast and do not try to cram on the day of the test. Relax. Take a snack and some water or drink to have during your break. TAKE THE BREAK between sections. There's nothing wrong with a little recharge.

Thanks for posting this I take my TEAS at the end of this month & I am a nervous wreck!

How long did you study for the TEAS?

What were your scores for each section?

Would you say the ATI manual & ATI online practice tests were harder, same or easier than the actual TEAS exam?

I studied periodically for about a month. I'd say the content on practice tests were nearly equivalent to the real thing. I feel as though the main similarities are mostly in structure though. The math and grammer portion seemed easier on the real test to me.

Thanks for the reply, it puts my mind a little at ease. I've been studying about 2 months. The first month, I studied casually here & there but the past 30 days, I have really buckled down because I need 90%+ overall on my TEAS to even have the slightest chance of get into my school of choice.

What did you get score wise in each section on the actual TEAS?

Then definitely get the TEAS mastery app. I scored exemplary and using that is definitely what I think helped. Make sure you know your body systems and anatomy

Hi. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am going to take the exam soon, and I am worried that I might not follow directions correctly. Can you also share what was the process during the exam? Did you have to click "submit" everytime you choose an answer, or did you have to complete all questions before given an option to "submit." Is it possible to mistakenly click the submit icon before finishing the exam?

I took the TEAS test today and got a 84.7%. I studied for 2 weeks. I studied about every other day for a 3-4 hours a day.

For me, the science section was the toughest. It was mainly focused on anatomy and physiology. About a handful of the questions I had no clue what the answer was and just used process of elimination. I did get an 87% in science, so, I am happy with that.

Get a good nights sleep the night before and definitely take the breaks between the sections!

I didn't have to click submit after each question. They allowed X amount of time per section for you to finish all the questions. You can go back and look at previous questions at any time within the allotted time frame.

I know I'm about to be repetitive because there are already a lot of comments about what the TEAS is like, but here's my experience:

I just graduated from ASU in spring 2018 with a degree in nutrition, and after all of it I decided that nursing was my true calling. I am in the process of applying to ASU's post bacc nursing program and just took my TEAS on Aug 22nd and was filled with relief when I got a 92.7%.

I told myself that I was going to start studying for this test a month before, but the summer flew by and I didn't open a book until two and a half weeks before my test. At that point I was extremely stressed and started studying 5+ hours every single day. First, I used the Mometrix TEAS book, which was extremely helpful as it had been three years since I took A&P, chem, and math and I was very rusty. I took the first practice test in that book without studying and got a 73%. I then studied the information provided in the book and supplemented with the internet and a week later I took the second test and got 85%, a definite improvement. I took the third test a couple days later and got a 77%, that test was way harder than the others. I also thought that the practice tests in that book were harder than the real test, specifically in the math and english usage sections. On all three of those tests I got in the 60s in the grammar section. I was worried at this point because I needed at least an 83 to be safe. I kept studying and a lot of comments from people said to know the endocrine system and they were right, there were a solid amount of questions that I wouldn't have known if I hadn't gone in depth on that system and all the hormones, but also study the basics of all the organ systems! The mometrix book was so helpful for that.

I also downloaded the pocket prep app and did practice questions on there throughout the two weeks. I think I ended up buying the full version and doing a couple hundred questions on it and it was honestly so helpful. When I would get questions wrong, I would go do more research on them to learn more, which helped me cover a lot more relevant content. I think there were actually a couple questions from that app that were almost identical to ones on the test.

A few days before the test, I bought the two practice tests on ATI's website and took both of them over the weekend. I got an 82% on both. Practice test B was significantly harder than practice test A, but I had already known that and I think I just didn't try as hard on test A. I got in the 80s and 90s in math and reading but I scored in the 70s on english and science. I would definitely say it was worth the money for these tests because of the formatting and the way they ask questions is the same. There were some very similar questions to what I saw on the real test.

I thought the real test was way easier than ALL of the practice tests I took. Compared to practice test A and B, the math and english sections were a lot easier. On my real test I ended up getting 100% on the math section and 87 on english usage, a 97 in reading and an 85 in science. The only section that I felt rushed on was the reading, I tried to hurry as much as I could through that section and ended up finishing with just 45 seconds to spare. I've heard some advice from people saying you should just read the questions and skim the text for the answers, but I find that the only way I do good in that section is by reading the full excerpt first. I thought this section was pretty similar in difficulty to the reading section on practice test A.

Just study study study, know the basics, do as many practice questions as you can, don't try to cram too much the day of the test just get lots of rest. You'll do great!

So do you guys think the Teas book from ATI is a must have? Or the mometrix, or both? Thanks!

I personally felt that the mometrix was enough for me. I took my TEAS exam in November and I spent about a month or so studying for the TEAS, but I was also studying for the PAX as well for three months before that. I scored 91.3% on the TEAS. Not only do I recommend the book from Mometrix, I also used tons of Quizlets and notes from A&P. Never just use the books, always try to find other sources so that you're exposed to new questions and concepts that might not be covered as heavily in the book.
