TEAS Test?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I'm a newbie here.

My name is Maggie. I live in Chicago with hubby and two kids. I have been going part-time for 5 years and the moment of truth has come. My pre-reqs are complete and now all I have to do is score high on the TEAS. Has anyone here taken it? Do you have any tips? Was it hard? Which part do you think was the hardest? How quickly did you find out your score?

I am enrolled in an ASN program at a Junior College and would love to eventually get my BSN.

I used TEAS study manual and also online practice assessment. They were pretty helpful, esp when you take the test for the first time. You can purchase ATITesing website http://www.atitesting.com/ for those materials.

I think TEAS test is not that hard. As long as you study and know what to expect, you'll be fine. :)

At my community college, we could see our test result right after we finished taking the test.

Also, I'm not sure if your school is the same as mine, but you may re-take the TEAS test after certain period of times that you take the previous test.

i took the teas last month. It was not all that bad the timing is what kills ya! make sure you study math , metric.basic algebra, percentages, decimals , fractions things like that, chemistry, periodic table know what element have what and know what the numbers on the periodic table mean. there is lots of reading ,,, that will throw you off because the timing is so fast ad there are many questions. The ati test sight is fine .. i also ordered a online teas test trick book that basically show you how to eliminate answers that you may not know, it really helped. when is your test?

I just took my TEAS test on Tuesday. I would definitely review geology/earth science....there are questions about volcano/plates/earthquake kinda stuff.... I know it sounds stupid :) but, I wasn't expecting it at all! I agree with the post before me.....REVIEW your Periodic Table!!! English, Vocab., Reading...etc....was a breeze for me. Good Luck!!! :D

I too just found out I have to take this. My school just switched from the NET.

I'm not strong in math and chem, in fact I hate chem with a passion. How much time do I need to prepare do you think? And what is the best study guide and where to get it??

Thanks

Hi guys I'm taking it this Monday. I am so scared of Science portion because... it's pretty broad. My nursing advisor told me that the ATI study guide book is pretty good and actually harder than the actual test.

I've been preparing for the test in the last 2 days haha because I just finish with the anatomy and chem tests, so I didn't have much time to study for the TEAS. I prepared by study the guide, and practice it online.

Good luck to everyone! :)

Ugh, I have to take the TEAS on May 2nd - for the Fall 2009 program! I have been studying since a few weeks ago a little a few times a week just to brush up on Math and Science, so by the time May rolls around I'll hopefully be prepared lol. I just want to pass this darn test since other than that I have nearly all my pre-req's completed and have a 3.7 gpa! I also have two small children and mainly study for the TEAS at night after they go to bed.

You still have time Mikjazz It's kinda hard to find time to study with small children eheh. I have a two and a half and I'm pregnant too so Good Luck! :)

I barely studied...and I guess it came back to haunt me. I only got into the LPN program, and missed the RN program by 5 points. So...STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!!! Not that there is anything wrong with getting into the LPN Program...I am happy now!!! Some people are on waiting lists for years! But, I would definitely say get the TEAS Study Guide by ATI. That is what I used and it is pretty similar. Good Luck!!!!

Thank you Holly,

I'm taking a test tomorrow 8 in the morning! If I have a low score it's gonna suck because I can only take it once :( according to my instructor. I've been studying the ATI study guid over and over again... I'm still not confident on the science portion though... but I will take my time and will not get out of the room until the last minute.

Pla84 - Today would be the day you took your TEAS test, how did it go? Did you take the one where you can get your results right after (I think it would be computerized) or the paper/pencil version? How was it?

I have a slightly different route now (or back up if the LPN program won't work out for me due to other life things going on) that I have decided to do. I'm waiting on the call about the LPN (not at the same CC I am attending, at a Hospital School) schedule (should be getting an answer by this afternoon) and if they do the routine M-F 6-8 hr days I simply cannot afford child care for two children for that schedule for schooling LOL. My husband is the only one working full time AND attending college full time as well! If I don't do the LPN program for Fall 2009, I decided to continue at my local CC this fall and finish up the last 2 pre-req's I need to take for the RN program for next Fall 2010. I should have an easier time getting in next fall because I was denied for this fall for having not enough points (they go by a point system, the more classes you have behind your belt with good grades, the more points). The students who have ALL of the pre-req's for RN out of the way at my school get a 5 Point bonus AND students who were denied this year, but applying back next year get an extra 10 Point bonus as well added into all the classes they took. After this Fall 2009 semester I should have around 40 Points total and I heard from the nursing secretary that students with 35-40+ points where the one's getting in, wish me a long time of luck!! LOL! So I will be applying for Fall 2010 admittance (hopefully lol) for 3 different RN schools - My local CC and two other Hospital RN programs that are sister hospitals (one of them has the LPN program I am interested in attending too). I am still hoping to get into the LPN program for Fall 2009 though (as long as their schedule isn't quite as booked) and then I can bridge into the RN program the following year and work weekends or something as an LPN while continue schooling for RN so that I can contribute to some of the bills!

Sorry such a long post! What are all of your plans, it's always nice to see other ideas!?

:bluecry1: I totally bomb the test... I got 77.1% overall and I can only take it once. The science portion was nothing like the study guide at all. Math part was not hard but have to work with big numbers without calculater kills my time. I don't know... I don't think I can get in but the other thread about my school said it's 60% GPA, 30% TEAS score, 10% how many credit at that univeristy. Thank you for asking though MikJazz and Good Luck for your route I know it's hard with kids and going to school at the same time. My husband and I are working our ways to get into our programs too. He's applying for PA and I'm attempting to apply for RN and we both are going to find out the result in August. My child is in a daycare right now... and nother one is coming in May so... it's alot of money for daycare. Being a parent is hard and sacrifying alot... so I wish the best for you ok? and do good on the TEAS test, unlike me!. :sniff:
