Hello! My name is Amy and I attend Ivy Tech in Richmond! I just started and am working on getting my pre reqs out of the way so I can apply to the nursing program in fall 09! I'm really excited! I am also really worried! I was actually considering going to IUE for BSN since there is no TEAS test and its much easier to get into! Its also a 4 year program and much more money!I'm really worried about the TEAS test! I barely passed science in high school (which was over 5 years ago) not because I didn't understand because I never tried to understand! Will the study guide help me? Someone suggested I get cliff notes in BIO, CHEM and Physics...I have to score atleast a %60 in science to pass. I also am not a real good math person! I finally took a math class and I am doing really well (95) Its mostly Fractions and Decimals, some order of operations no algerbra. What was some of the harder math problems anyone can remember!
Any one else at Ivy Tech Richmond planning on applying the same time as me? Maybe we could help each other!
Thanks!!!

The study guide will definitely help. And if you're doing well in your math class, you should be OK. I thought the math was pretty easy (but I'm a math person). My poorest score was in the science portion, and I think of myself as a science person, too, so was a little disappointed. Study anatomy and review the basic chemistry stuff.

The ATI study guide is THE best there is.
I would suggest getting this and studing from that- esp science and math........they used some of the actual questions from the guide on my TEAS.

Don't waste too much time studying Anatomy. There are hardly any anatomy questions on the test. Mine only had 1 and it was a diagram of organs and asked which one makes insulin. (pancreas)
The math portion had a lot of fractions, percents, ratios....mostly it was busy work. It would give you a person's gross income and give you a list of their bills and ask how much was left over after their bills were paid, etc. Figuring taxes, interest, etc.
Spend most of your study time on Science. There were a lot of Chem/Physics questions on the test. Also, in the ATI guide, there are charts in the science section with wheat and vegetables on the bottom...they look like pyramids. Study those because there were 4 or 5 questions on them. What else....algebra, I only had like 5 questions and they were fairly easy. Know that time is very limited so you won't be able to check and recheck your answers in the math section. After I got all my problems finished, minus two or three, I went back to try and solve those couple and there were only 30 seconds left so I had to guess. Reading and English.....very basic. Brush up on commonly misspelled words. For the math, if you can remember how to do percents and all that, you will be fine. Part/Whole = %/100
I had the same anatomy question on mine as well and that was it!
I took the TEAS three times and they were all the same questions each time.
I had questions on Geology on mine, tons of algebra, mega tons on Chem/Physics.
I agree- Reading and English very easy.
I had lots of ratio/percents on mine as well.
Glad its OVER!
AMEN to that, Sista!!! Please pass the liquor. LOL
And what the heck were all those stupid beetle questions about anyhow? Geesh!!!

Hi, Amy!
I'm at Ivy Tech in Richmond too, but I'm applying for this fall. The TEAS test is not so bad. I found it to be kind of like the Compass test that you take for admission to Ivy Tech. It will be helpful if you've taken ANP I before you take the test, as some of the questions on the test I took were covered in that class. A recent math class would be a good idea too, but I didn't find anything that was above the level of Math 050.
Hope this helps!
LMAO @ beetles!!!
I have no clue.
Critical thinking I suppose.
The one on geology really threw me for a loop.
Lets see, my patient is experiencing severe CP.....do I check his " geodes" 1st? LOLOL!
Too funny :)
I guess they were wanting to see if we can relate one thing to the other. I dunno. There were just a lot of questions about beetles. And Wheat.
What kills me is I can answer almost any ANP question. But there was only one of those on the test. Flippin A! Im just really glad I passed.

If you purchase the ATI study guide, I would also recommend the online practice tests. They really helped me a lot. :)

i have taken the teas twice. i failed the math the first time and did well on all the other subjects. the second time i passed everything. i haven't had math in over ten years and science since hs 20 + years ago. the math was the worst for me. i got the study guide and it did little to help. i had a classmate tutor me in math and that is what saved me. if you have a good memory you will do well the second time. i did really well in science. it is really common sense on a lot of it. always chose the option that provides the most detailed outcome. on graphs look for the one that doesn't seem to fit. in math be aware that numbers separated with a : are ratios....that really threw me the first time. know you metric conversions and percentages. reading will not be a problem. know your sentence structure and punctuation. spelling is not difficult if your preparation accommodates the necessary problems in an efficient manner. one other hint for science...80/35 the top number is the total of protons and neutrons. the bottom number is the number of protons. you would subtract the bottom number from the top to identify how many neutrons there are. good luck!
btw the beetles were too busy flying around so they really made things difficult.
