TEAS test AFTER you get in program.

Published

The program I'm applying to doesn't have an entrance exam before like most the allnurses posters have. You take it once you get it and it doesn't weigh as heavily. Is that weird to anyone else that I don't have to take it before? Thanks for any replies.

That is odd. What program? Does the TEAS score determine your ability to pass to the next level?

It's a BSN program. I believe it's based off of GPA and that's what gets you in the program. The TEAS test I believe is what determines if you continue on in the program as well as grades.

I WISH my school was like this hahaha. I wouldn't be nearly as stressed.

Although this is uncommon, it does happen. My niece is applying at a couple of the colleges in Chicago and the one she's attending currently does not require any entrance exams. I believe they go based on GPA and attendance (but I may be wrong).

One of my previous co-workers went to ITT Tech and they did not require a TEAS either.

I think that acceptance to the program is based on GPA. I think they have a point system. They're very hush hush about what system they use. I do know that it has something to do with county so maybe you get points for that. I just know I didn't have to take the teas so I was happy about that. This is the only school I've applied to and right now I have a math & science GPA of 3.6 and that's without A & P II. I'm hoping I get in.

The community college in my area that I transferred from does the same thing, you only take the TEAS after your acceptence. I was surprised how they could do that, yet other colleges make you take the tests before to even be looked at. I wish they would just get rid of enterance exams!

I just feel if we put in the hard work to have the GPA, an entrance exam shouldn't determine that. They're way hard and basically X you out if you don't do well.

A school in my area required their students to take the TEAS after admission during the first semester.

They did this for a number of years. I guess they were compiling data, comparing the ability of the students to complete the program with TEAS scores.

After a significant drop in their first time NCLEX pass rate the TEAS became admission criteria.

I think my suggestion would be to speak to an adviser from the Nursing office and see what their specifications/requirements for admission are. It's weird that they're secretive about it...

Exactly, I have a 4.0 at the college I transferred to. But I know since I didn't do well on my exam I didn't get into the program. I Feel like they shouldn't determine how well you will do in a program.

That's the thing. The school has had a 100% pass rate for 4 years now. They've had this method for the same amount of time.

Well the nursing department sends us the supplemental application in Jan and then we find out in March. So I've already applied. Haha. Guess I'll find out in March.
