TEAS MATH

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Going for my lpn to rn. Failed the math section on the teas twice. Please tell me I'm not the only one. Math is EVIL. I can do nursing math fine. Algebra and that other crap is another story.

Well, I am one of those weirdos who like math. It does not come naturally to me, it's a slog and I make plenty of mistakes but here's what I have to offer in the way of advice:

1.Don't be afraid of math. It's just computation, numbers you know and numbers you don't know and Algebra is just deduction. You have, in your brain, the toolbox for this, using it often will give you the same kind of proficiency a master mechanic has approaching a machine.

2. Try to realize that math is beautiful; abstract perfection. People who REALLY love math say things like "math is or at least provides insight into the mind of God".

3. It's important to try and understand the equation rather than just trying to apply a formula. With practice, the formulas become second nature, the actual art of the equation is what needs to be sought if one is going to really internalize math.

If you haven't, I'd encourage you to get a good tutor as well. Learning math is worth it. I cannot tell you how many times find myself using Algebra in my every day life.
