TEAS exam structure advice

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this site but found all these threads very helpful! I'm not sure if someone's posted a question like this already, but I figured I'd go ahead and ask anyways!

I was wondering if anyone who took the TEAS exam has any advice on pacing during the test?? I'm currently studying for the TEAS exam with the ATI study guide and Kaplan Nursing School Entrance exams. I've also taken the online assessment. But it's starting to freak me out a little since I haven't actually had a real practice exam with the same number of questions that will actually be on the TEAS test. So I really have no idea how fast I should be going, or if I can just take my time??

Does anyone have any helpful advice! Thanks in advance!

there are 4 sections on the TEAS exam.

  • Section 1: Reading - 50 minutes/40 questions
  • Section 2: Math - 56 minutes/45 questions
  • Section 3: Science - 38 minutes/30 questions
  • Section 4: English - 65 minutes/55 questions

I personally felt that I had enough time in each section, didn't feel rushed at all.

Good luck!

thanks so much for your help!

Wow that is fewer questions and more time than I expected. lol, the Kaplan study guide is 65 ques for vocab, 75 ques for math, 65 ques for science, and 45 ques for reading. I was giving myself 1min per question, I guess I prepared myself well with pacing now that I finished both of my practice tests. Thanks for the insight on the structure! I am more relaxed and less tense now for tomorrow's teas test :].

If you happen to speed through one section with time left over does the extra time roll over to the next section? Im guessing it doesnt but hey, what do I know lol, Ive been wrong before!

nope, it doesn't. you have to wait until the time is up for one section before you can move on to the next one....i guess it's a good thing in a way because it leaves you time to go back and check your answers...

What worked well for me and left me plenty of time( thus less stress) was to go through and answer all ?s that I knew, and then go back and go through what I didn't know or was not positive on. This way, I had answered alot more correctly, and could get more answered.

Since unanswered ?s are counted as wrong, it helped to get more right!

best of luck!
