if i have a patient 72 yrs old, newly diagnosed with copd (o2 sats 88%) with a history of a left hip fracture (that's all the information i have... it is a pt scenario we have to do and then come up with a teaching presentation) what would the significance of the hip fracture be in the teaching scenario? i was thinking blood thinners but it doesn't say he is on them. he's not going to moving a whole lot due to the copd and taking frequent rest periods.... any ideas?
*just a disclaimer... i am not asking people to do this assignment for me... just any ideas as to what teaching i could include for the hip fx* :) thanks for any help you can offer! i appreciate it.

First focus on the new dx of COPD for your teaching....I am assuming you know that. I would want to know more about the hip fracture...was it from a fall? The odds are it was...so you can focus in on safety measures to prevent falls. The COPD also plays into this b/c if he is SOB and not getting enough oxygen he may get confused..and what may that lead to...falls..and round and round we go
Right, I've got the COPD dx and the teaching r/t to that. Unfortunately we don't get any other info about what happened with the fx... we have to make a presentation based on the info the instructor gave which was just hx of L hip fx (along with COPD dx). So then I guess his main consideration is if he goes home with oxygen, to make sure to mind the oxygen tubing if the machine is in a different room to be sure not to trip. I just wasn't sure if there was something I was missing... thanks for your reply :)
