I have just started the nursing program in Detroit and I was very excited. However I have found after 2 weeks that the enviroment I have just entered is not really conducive to learning. It appears that my teachers are all very angry (ladies) at this point and have this mentality that their instructors were mean to them so they are giving it back to us. It doesnt seem to have made them better nurses as my teacher admits all the mistakes she made and her skills now seem (when she bothers to show us something) are pretty subpar. I do not have a problem with tough learning environments ( I have 2 bachelor's degrees and they were not easy to get) but I do have a problem with instructors not willing to assist and hearing the phrase "reading is fundamental" is driving me up a wall. I am really starting to second guess my decision to go to this school and its unnerving because I have a 2 year plan and any alterations would disrupt my children's lives. At this point I will tough it out! But I just do not understand the anger, its as if they hated being nurses. My professor actually stated "she hates touching people"! How is that possible in this field? My heart and soul is wrapped in this career path and now I feel cheated. Is this the norm for nursing instructors? Or am I just being a big baby?
