Anyone gone from being a teacher to being a nurse? What was the transition like? What do you like more/less about being a nurse?

I've always been a nurse, but a few years ago I switched to school nursing. Just be aware that if you go from teaching to nursing, your hours are going to change drastically. I took quite a pay cut to go into school nursing, but it was worth it because now I feel like I have a life. Nursing is very rewarding and worthwhile, but just be aware of what you are getting into schedule-wise if you plan on working in the hospital.

Hey Maggijo,
I'm doing that right now! Thought I was the only one. I am just finishing my pre-req's - didn't have too many, and apply in a couple weeks. I am expecting to get in and begin clinical next spring or fall.
What do you teach?

I'm also a 2nd degree teacher to nursing person. I taught for 6 yrs in music education in two states and figured out I was making around.... $2 an hour since I was on salary. The stress and time was just too much. I'm currently a junior nursing student and will graduate with a BSN in May 09. I'm excited about the future for the first time in a long time. Hope all goes well for you.
