Teacher inservice

Published

Hello! I started as a new school nurse in the middle of last year. This will be my first time talking with the staff at orientation about my expectations and agenda. My brain is still in summer mode. Does anyone have an outline or agenda they use that they wouldn't mind sharing with me? Thanks in advance!

Hello!

I unfortunately do not have any info for you, but am in a similar situation.

I wish this school nurse job came with a manual!

Good luck this year!

Here is what I talk to our teachers about:

Clinic procedures/reasons to send students to the clinic

Reasons NOT to send students to the clinic

Classroom strategies to try before sending students

NOW cart usage (we have a cart that we can use to make classroom visits instead of students coming to us and missing class)

District Lice Policy

School Emergency Plan

Notification of clinic for field trips

Medical Alerts/students with chronic illnesses

State-required screenings performed in 9th grade

I have never heard of a cart to make class visits. Is this a good thing or do you just spend your whole day running the halls? I would like to know more about this.

I like the cart, and it helps cut down on some of our frequent flyers. The students will call us from the classroom with their requests, and I can take them what they need to stay in class. It's often a pad or bandaid, or to take their temperature. We don't use the cart extremely often, because I think the teachers forget about it. I have a full-time assistant who can stay and cover the clinic while I make classroom visits.
