Hello everyone!!! I know, a little early. I just can't wait for application period to come around. Currently taking a Chemistry course to boost my GPA some. Looking to hear from other future applicants. Go FROGS!
I did email them and this was the response I got...
Your GRE scores are low plus we also had concerns in the area of "non-cognitive factors" (i.e., not grades or IQ). We felt that you need to improve your social and emotional intelligence skills. These areas are important to clinical success as a nurse anesthetist student and include things such as assertiveness, empathy, flexibility, problem solving, and stress management. You may want to read the two books below for a greater understanding of emotional intelligence.
1. The EQ Edge: Emotional Intelligence and Your Success
2. Emotional Intelligence in Health and Social Care: A Guide for Improving Human Relationships
We do not have a specific number of seats in the class. We do not have a "wait list." We either accept or reject applicants.
I showed this response to the CRNA, supervisors, and MDs that wrote my reference letters. They were all in shock because they feel like the committee got the wrong idea of the type of person/nurse I am. I'm not sure what they were looking for in my answers during the interview. I was also asked what I would do if i wasn't accepted. I replied i would email and find out what I can do to better myself as an applicant for next year. I'm so lost because I totally did not expect this reason to be why I wasn't accepted.

That's so frustrating. The only thing that I can think to say is that this may just be a sign that TCU isn't a good fit for you. It's just as important that a school be a good fit for the applicant, as it is for the applicant to be a good fit for the school, ya know?
That sounds very frustrating! If I were you, and you feel they are wrong about your emotional intelligence, I'd do exactly what they told you and read those books and work on your interviewing skills. Retake the GRE and reapply next year.
Also I'd apply to other schools that weight interviews more heavily on clinical knowledge and not emotional intelligence .
Good luck!
I felt confident in my interview as well. I wonder if they used that online assessment we took prior to our interview to help guide their decisions. I took another practice one online and I scored "high on emotional intelligence." This could mean 2 things: 1) you really are great with dealing with your's as well as other's emotions or 2) you lack self-awareness of your emotions. I hope they didn't assume the latter and had a pre-judgement on the kind of person I was before the interview started. :/
I was wondering myself how much weight the online assessment had in the decision process. I'm not certain but probably scored low on EI.
Hello,
I was curious for those in your class if any additional individuals were able to do the Phase I distance option at sites other than the 4 listed sites? For example - did anyone else petition for a new distance site at El Paso?
I am hoping that myself an another individual in my city could petition to do Phase I via the distance option in my current city if we are accepted and apply at the same time (which would be difficult, I realize).
-Thanks so much
Buckle up for everyone that is in the program. I randomly stumbled across this blog about TCU CRNA and felt compelled to sign up. I'm currently in the Spring didactic semester with Mace (who I noticed had commented in this blog). Enjoy the 8 months of online classes. Fall starts the fun. It's been brutal at times so far. It's manageable, but Do not get a "C" in a class, as it is difficult to make-up for. Like drinking out of a fire hydrant most of the time. Reach out for questions
