TCC Nursing Program questions

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

I have currently decided to switch schools, and I am considering TCC. I have a few questions for those who have already gone through their program:

1. On the prereqs it says Biology for Majors and Anatomy, both of these have to be taken prior to starting the program, they claim the whole prgram only takes 5 semesters, but in order to take anatomy, you have to take biology first. So how does this work? Do you actually have to take it over the summer before enrolling in Anatomy in the fall in order to get into nursing for the spring? Or do they allow you to take both at once?

2. Their site says that 90 are accepted each semester into the program...it doesn't say how many actually apply.

3. What is the NET test like? I mean if I am still working on my CNA program at the same time that I take the NET will I mostlikely not pass it?

4. I've heard good and bad about the school, but nobody at the school will tell me the pass rate, does anyone know?

5. I heard that most of the students do their clinicals only on weekends is this fairly accurate?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

hi, i am currently in tcc's nursing program. i am in level one, enrolled in level 2 lol, so i can answer some of your questions, let me know if this helps any!

1. on the prereqs it says biology for majors and anatomy, both of these have to be taken prior to starting the program, they claim the whole prgram only takes 5 semesters, but in order to take anatomy, you have to take biology first. so how does this work? do you actually have to take it over the summer before enrolling in anatomy in the fall in order to get into nursing for the spring? or do they allow you to take both at once?

you do have to have bio for majors and anatomy taken before you can enter the program, you may be enrolled in one of these classes when you are applying though. microbiology and physiology along w/ a few others can be taken as co-requisites which means you may take them along with nursing classes.

2. their site says that 90 are accepted each semester into the program...it doesn't say how many actually apply.

actually about 95 were accepted this semester, a lot more than 95 apply.

3. what is the net test like? i mean if i am still working on my cna program at the same time that i take the net will i mostlikely not pass it?

the net test is like a mini act test. you can definitely pass it while ur taking ur cna class. i do recommend buying the review book though, it's helpful. overall, the test is pretty easy.

4. i've heard good and bad about the school, but nobody at the school will tell me the pass rate, does anyone know?

im not for sure about the pass rate, last i heard it was like 98%, i know it's one of the higher ones around town.

5. i heard that most of the students do their clinicals only on weekends is this fairly accurate?

no, this is not fairly accurate. level one and level 2 require absolutely no weekends. however, i do know that in level 4 there is some weekends.

good luck, and don't hesitate ask anymore ?'s!

any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I graduated a few years ago, but TCC is generally well respected in the hospitals around the community. My class had about 70 or so graduating (we started with more than 90 I think) and only one person that I know of didn't pass on the first attempt on Boards. She did pass on her second attempt.

I have heard that lately it's hard to get hold of them. According to the OK board of nursing website, in 2007 the pass rate was 91.6%. Be sure and look at the total number of students taking the test for that school. A school may have 100% but only a few took the test.

I have heard from other nurses say that TCC nurses, along with Rogers State are generally the ones that hit the ground running after graduation (in the Tulsa area). This is a generalization though.

Specializes in CNA in nursing home, PCT clinicals.

I'm a TCC nursing student and everything you've read so far is true (in previous posts). DEFINITELY get the review book for the NET test. Also, you can go to eriworld.com for practice questions. Look around on the computer for different sites (just google NET test). I worked the review book and got a 97% - my straight A buddy didnt get the book and got a 48%.

As far as prereq's - I did all mine before applying. One thing I will say though, is DO take the Patient Care Technician class. Even though you have your CNA. It way surpasses what you learn as a CNA and definitely helps you prepare for nursing school - the tests and the competencies.

This last semester, only about 38 people graduated. They said they usually have more - I dont know. It's tough. But, like someone said earlier, TCC has the reputation of being the "best of the best".

Good luck!

Hey Poliwog3, what level are u in at TCC? Im gonna be goin into level 2 in the fall!

Everything that I have read so far is pretty much accurate. I graduated in December and the pass rate for my class was 99% on the NCLEX, only one person failed. The program itself has its ups and downs, as all programs do. I highly recommend getting as many pre-reqs out of the way before you apply. I also recommend the PCT program, well worth it!!! The only level that has clinicals on the weekends is in Level 4, but they have other options if you are unable to do weekend clinicals. The program is intense, but gets you ready for the NCLEX. Good luck!!!!
