Hi I'm going to be going to Baker College (if anyone knows that college) to become a nurse then further my education and become a nurse anesthetist. I've read articles on here saying that policies on tattoos and piercings depend on the nursing schools policy but I'm not sure of baker's policy since its not technically a nursing school. Not specifically for nurses any ways. I have my Monroe pierced and I'm going to get my nose pierced but I can't take it out or it won't heal properly. I'm also getting a small wrist tattoo that says Stay Strong and it means a lot to me. Can anyone help me out here please?
Dye your hair, remove your piercing, don't pierce your nose. Wear a nice watch that covers the stay strong tat on your wrist. My nose is no longer pierced, the hole closed halfway through the semester. My hair is a shade found in nature (it was purple red), and even though I have been told I can wear my tattoo (it's a large medic alert that covers my forearm) I wear a compression sleeve (like for running) over it anyhow. It's not about ME, it's about respecting my programs reputation at the clinical sites I go to. It's about my school, and portraying what they want portrayed. I can go back to being me in a bit, you know?
I had my nose pierced before nursing school. If you need to keep the piercing in because otherwise it will close, you can pick up a clear retainer from a hot topic or Spencer's at a mall. It's kind of a pain to switch out the piercing before and after clinicals, but to me it was worth doing do.
I also think it depends what kind of nose piercing you have as well. I have a plain cubic zirconia one that was in for 4 years and sometimes I switch to a hoop (obviously not when I am in a professional setting). When I am wearing the hoop, i very often have people who have known me for a long time ask when I got my nose pierced. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that the stud can be tiny enough that it's not noticeable to detract from the 'professional appearance'.

Where I work you can't wear anything longer than a t shirt under your scrubs so covering up an arm tattoo is impossible. Any colrs other than those in the natural spectrum aren't allowed.
