I went to the podiatrist today, and was Dx'd with tarsal tunnel syndrome. I've had plantar fasciitis for a couple of years, and despite taping, ice, stretching, etc., my foot has gotten worse, and my symptoms changed to burning, numbness, and cramping. I also have fatty lesions on the inner side of my heel. The Dr. said the fat was herniating into the dermis, and that my heel padding was degenerating. So, a warning to those of you out there that have PF: if you start getting neurological symptoms, seek further treatment. I may have to end up getting surgery to release the tibial nerve, because I have let this go on too long.
I am to start phonophoresis and/or iontophoresis on Thursday to see if this works. Have any of you had these treatments? How well did they work for you? I am very happy to be able to get a non-invasive treatment, but I have never heard of these modalities. I hope this works, because I can't afford to be off work for weeks on end.

yes i had it in both ankles. i fear it may be coming back because the numbness and pressure in one ankle is so painful. i had surgery on one ankle about 20 years ago and the other about 15 and i think i dveloped scar tisuue. it's very painful and it takes awhile to heal from the surgery. let me know how you do

I was just diagnosed with it. Doc referred me to a podiatrist but I decided to follow my chiro's suggestion for carpal tunnel treatment, which worked for me.
