Tampa LPN Training

Published

I have been reading all the boards and I still have yet to figure out exactly where I want to go for LPN training. Galen sounds wonderful, but I'm terrified to spend that much money. Anyone have a little one? I have gone to HCC before and absolutely hated their advisory staff...I vowed I would never go back lol. Anyone heard of The Center for Allied Health and Nursing Education? Also Erwin seems great, except for the waiting list, but for the cost I would be happy to wait. However, are there prereqs required for their classes? I plan to take my CNA classes in the fall and start off as a CNA, then continue on with the nursing classes. Ughh I have just been looking for so long, it's all starting to blend together! Thank you so much for being here! This forum has helped me more than anyone else in this journey!:D

I went to Erwin. It is a great program. The waiting period is not long now that they have changed their admission requirements. They do not have prereqs required; just pass the TABE and TEAS exams. Then based on your score, you will be placed in the program. I have three children who are now 9, 6, 3; I graduated from Erwin in March 2009.

If you are planning into a nursing program, I don't know I would waste money on a CNA program. After the first clinical in nursing school, you can challenge the CNA certification exam and save yourself the money of the training program.

Good luck to you!

I was just accepted to the LPN program at Manatee Technical Institute in Bradenton. I live on the outskirts of Tampa, close to 75, so the drive isn't bad for me. Personally, I prefer it then having to deal with morning traffic heading into Tampa. There isn't a waiting list and they have a new LPN program starting everying 3-4 months. Tuition and all of the extra fees add up to about 5500 which is a little more expensive than Erwin but you don't have to deal with the waiting list. I haven't started classes yet but all of the advisory staff has been very pleasant and helpful.

I hope this helps! Good luck in your school search :)

BTW - Pasco-Hernando Community College, Sarasota Tech, Brewster Tech, and Aparicio-Levy Tech -- they all have LPN programs and they are all in the Tampa area.
