Tampa, Florida hospitals that have new grad program?

Hi,

I am currently about half-way through my accelerated BSN program (do not live in FL currently) and am interested in working in Tampa/St. Petersburg area in Florida. I know some hospitals have specific new grad (RN) websites and application. So far I haven't been able to find a single hospital in that area that hires new grads.... Does anyone know of any kind of nurse residency or new grad programs in Tampa area?... or should I just apply to regular positions that "prefer" experience but don't "require" it?

Also, if I finish in spring of 2013, when should I apply?..I heard december from some and march from others....

Tampa Bay is a tough job market so you'll be competing for positions with local students who've had their clinicals in Tampa Bay hospitals.

You can look at Baycare which is a large hospital system with multipe hospitals in the Tampa Bay area. The jobs I think are posted under Clinical Nurse Residency. They have their own "earn as you learn" program in which they help students through school then place them for work as an RN, so if there are any other vacancies it would be posted there.

There are many HCA hospitals in the area, but I haven't heard great things about them.

Florida Hospital Tampa and St. Joseph's (Baycare) offer Nurse Resident Programs for new graduates. HCA facilities will hire new nurses out of school as well. Florida Hospital's program is 12 weeks in length and includes lab simulations and check-offs, journal article reviews, group projects and prevalence studies, lectures, seminars, and training for certifications for whichever specialty hired into. First 6 weeks are on a general medical/surgical floor under close supervision of an experienced BSN. Second 6 weeks are on whatever floor you were hired onto. Not sure how St. Joe's program is, but I've heard it's very good as well and that HCA's hospitals give 12 weeks of orientation too. They will interview and hire out of state. Just make sure you have your license before you apply and make yourself stand out! Good luck!

Been LPN for over 22 yrs. and still cant' get hired at St. Joes in Tampa. Applied thousands of times.
